About the Role
We are currently seeking a Pastry Cook who is passionate about baking and committed to maintaining the highest standards of quality and presentation. The successful candidate will play a vital role in producing the signature pastries, cakes, and desserts that define Mum’s Bakehouse. Working closely with the Head Baker and café team, you’ll ensure our products are consistent, creative, and compliant with all food safety and hygiene standards.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, bake, and finish a variety of pastries, cakes, breads, and desserts in line with Mum’s Bakehouse recipes and quality standards.
Produce specialty items and custom orders, including dietary-specific products (e.g. gluten-free or vegan).
Monitor baking times, oven temperatures, and ingredient quality to ensure consistency and excellence.
Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment in accordance with Queensland Health and HACCP standards.
Manage ingredient preparation, stock rotation, and ordering to minimise waste and maintain freshness.
Collaborate with management and other kitchen staff on new product ideas, seasonal offerings, and menu innovations.
Support junior cooks or kitchen assistants through guidance and teamwork.
Candidate Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must have:
Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or Diploma in Hospitality Management (or equivalent).
Minimum 1–2 years of relevant experience in a commercial bakery, patisserie, or café environment.
Proven ability to produce consistent, high-quality pastries and desserts.
Sound understanding of pastry techniques, baking fundamentals, and food safety standards.
Excellent time management, attention to detail, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced kitchen.
A passion for creativity, innovation, and continuous improvement in the art of pastry making.
Working Conditions
This is a full-time position (38 hours per week) based at our Kedron café. Work may include early mornings, weekends, and public holidays as part of a rotating roster. Uniform and PPE are provided, and all work is performed in a safe, modern commercial kitchen environment.
