About the Position
Reporting to the Team Leader Building and working as a member within a large and experienced team, this role primarily involves structural and compliance inspections of development in the City of Onkaparinga area. It also provides professional building advice to customers, team members and other council officers relating to the development assessment responsibilities of Council. Exposure to a range of residential, commercial, industrial and rural developments, provides for a rewarding diverse career with accreditation advancement opportunities.
The Building Team plays a key role in ensuring that buildings within the council area are safe, compliant, and constructed to a high standard. The team is responsible for assessing and approving building applications in accordance with the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016, the National Construction Code and relevant Australian Standards. They review construction plans and documentation to ensure that proposed developments meet essential safety, structural, fire protection, and accessibility provisions and requirements. The Building Team also provide expert advice to homeowners, builders, developers, and other stakeholders (internal and external) on building regulations and building compliance issues.
About You
Working as part of a collaborative building team in a fast-paced, results driven and fun environment you will:
- improve building standards through construction and swimming pool safety inspections
- provide professional building advice to Council and customers relating to the responsibilities set out in the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016 and associated legislation and standards
- have a natural ability to communicate with influence and build rapport with our customers
- provide efficient and integrated development assessment and inspection services to internal and external customers
- possess highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively
Building supervisors holding a current and suitable license under the Building Work Contractors Act 1995 which has been maintained for a minimum of 5 years are also strongly encouraged to apply.
Key Selection Criteria:
- Hold a current and relevant building work supervisor’s registration under the Building Work Contractors Act 1995 which has been maintained for a minimum of five
consecutive years and be willing to obtain accreditation as an Accredited Professional – Building Level 4 issued by the Accreditation Authority or hold a recognised building surveying qualification or already have the relevant Level 4 accreditation.
- Detailed knowledge of the National Construction Code and development related legislation.
- Experience in undertaking building audit and compliance inspections.
- Ability to interpret complex information, drawings, construction documentation, maps, statistics and legal opinions.
- Very good oral and written communication skills with the ability to prepare correspondence and reports and handle customer enquiries in a clear and concise manner.
