The Opportunity
Kangaroo Island Council is seeking a motivated individual to join our team as the General Inspector / Fire Prevention Officer. This role requires a suitably skilled and motivated individual with a positive approach to engaging with members of the community to ensure a safe environment for all residents and visitors. A track record of proven self-management skills is crucial, showcasing the ability to prioritise tasks and effectively handle multiple issues within a dynamic environment.
The General Inspector / Fire Prevention Officer has the responsibility of assisting Council to meet its legislative obligations in respect to dog & cat management, bushfire prevention, local nuisance, parking, marine and camping.
Reporting to the Manager Development Services, you will play a key role in administering a wide range of compliance and enforcement functions as an Authorised Officer of Council.
About You
You will have proven capabilities in working in a legislative framework and will possess exceptional stakeholder management qualities.
To be a success in this role you will have:
Certificate IV in Local Government (Statutory Compliance) and/or Certificate IV in Animal Management or relevant practical experience in a similar role.
Ability to effectively communicate with strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Experience in the administration and enforcement of Acts, Regulations, Council bylaws and policies relevant to the area of responsibility, including administering legal documents.
Thorough knowledge of the fire permit system under the Fire & Emergency Service Act and Regulations, an understanding of the principles of fire prevention and a working knowledge of fire prevention strategies.
Knowledge and understanding of animal behaviour and ability to work with various animals.
