Opening late 2025 (or Jan 2026), Happy Camper aims to be something special; a vibrant hospitality destination that transforms a former brewery into a large and lush, oasis-like garden, bar and restaurant serving a blend of bistro classics and more elaborate meals, along with a curated drinks offer with a big side of personality and warm hospitality.

And we're looking for someone special to lead the offering from the ground up.

Happy Camper is the next chapter from Steve Jeffares, co-founder of some of Melbourne's much loved hospitality and beer institutions The Local Taphouse and Stomping Ground Brewery & Beer Hall, as well as the renowned GABS Festival.

The Role

We're looking for a driven General Manager to help bring this new venture to life — someone who can balance warmth and precision, fun and focus. Happy Camper isn't a special-occasion destination; it's a place people return to again and again for great food, drinks, and connection.

You'll lead from the front, shaping a culture of casual excellence — where service feels natural, not scripted, and every guest leaves a little happier than when they arrived.

Working closely with the Founder, you'll build the team, the systems, and the energy that make this venue hum. If you love creating relaxed, high-performing hospitality environments that people genuinely love, we'd love to meet you.

Key Responsibilities

Lead daily operations across the bar, restaurant, and expansive beer garden

Deliver a warm, professional, and effortlessly fun guest experience

Build, coach, and retain a motivated, high-performing team

Manage budgets and hit both operational and experiential KPIs

Collaborate closely with the kitchen, bar, marketing, and events teams to bring the brand to life

Partner with the Founder to refine systems, service, and culture as the venue grows

Bring energy, ideas, and consistency to make every shift hum

About You

5+ years in senior management at respected, large and busy venues with strong food service experience

Calm, confident, and adaptable under pressure

Happy to routinely spend the busy shifts leading by example on the floor

Skilled at balancing laid-back hospitality with sharp operational control

An inspiring leader who knows how to motivate and empower their team

Passionate about hospitality — and knows how to make a venue buzz

Previous experience in venue pre-opening or launch phases is preferred but not essential.

Must have Australian work rights to be eligible for this position
