Situated in the leafy suburb of Toorak, the Royal South Yarra Lawn Tennis Club is widely regarded as one of Australia’s premier private member clubs. Since its establishment in 1884, the Club has developed into a highly respected sporting and social institution, now home to more than 4,500 members and supported by a dedicated team of over 100 employees. Members enjoy access to 10 immaculately maintained grass courts, 12 porous all-weather courts and 4 Har-Tru courts, as well as facilities for squash, billiards, fitness classes, a fully equipped gymnasium, a 25-metre swimming pool and bridge. Our heritage clubhouse features a range of hospitality offerings, including several member dining spaces, function rooms and four self-contained accommodation apartments.
Building on its proud history, the Club has recently expanded its operations to include Dendy Park Tennis Club in Brighton and remains strongly focused on its future development.
About the Role
We are seeking a warm, professional and highly organised Receptionist to join our team on a 12-month maternity leave contract. As the first point of contact for members and guests, this role requires outstanding communication skills, a strong customer service focus and the ability to manage a variety of administrative tasks in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will be the first point of contact for members and guests, providing friendly and efficient support, both in person and over the phone, and assisting with a variety of administrative tasks.
Some of the responsibilities include:
Greet and welcome members, guests and visitors with a high level of professionalism and warmth.
Provide administrative support to the Club's senior management team.
Handle incoming telephone calls and email enquiries promptly and effectively.
Ensure a tidy, organised and inviting reception area at all times.
Provide information on the Club's membership, facilities and events.
Coordinate the Club's stationery requirements in an orderly and timely manner.
Maintain an appropriate filing system for all the Club's records.
Assist the Membership Manager with enquiries, application forms, preparation of membership cards and other general membership duties.
Prepare and distribute letters of introduction for members travelling to reciprocal clubs.
Assist members with court reservations, dining bookings, fitness classes and events.
Responsible for taking accommodation bookings, preparing cleaning schedule, stock ordering.
Taking payment for accommodation bookings, membership payments and other general payments.
Support guests staying in on-site accommodation by coordinating check-ins and check-outs, handling room bookings, and addressing any inquiries or requests.
Work closely with housekeeping to ensure rooms are well-prepared and maintained for guest arrivals.
Respond promptly to guest needs, offering information about club amenities and activities, and providing recommendations for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
We are looking for an individual who:
Has a warm and welcoming demeanor.
Has high level customer service skills.
Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
Is well presented.
Has a keen interest in tennis or sports in general.
Qualifications
Previous experience in reception, administration, or customer service roles, ideally within hospitality, recreation, or private club settings.
Familiarity with reservation systems or member management software (Northstar preferred).
A proactive and detail-oriented approach to work.
Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, with a friendly and professional demeanour.
High level administration skills and proficiency in administration duties.
Knowledge of tennis and an interest in sport generally would be highly regarded.
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Must have strong front facing customer service skills as this role will deal directly with member enquiries in relation to all thing's membership. Well-developed interpersonal skills are required to satisfy the needs of a sophisticated and demanding membership with high expectations for excellence.
This position is a full-time salaried role on a 12-month maternity leave contract paying between $65,000 to $70,000 plus superannuation. This role is predominantly Monday to Friday during normal business hours.
