About the Role
Reporting to the Manager Approval Services, this position shares responsibility of the Planning Services team with another Coordinator.
The team carries out the processing of Development Applications, Subdivision referrals, Structure Planning, Scheme Amendments and policy development while working alongside the City’s Building Services and Administrative teams.
We are seeking an experienced Town Planner, with substantial knowledge of statutory planning, policy development, land subdivision processes, structure planning and supervising teams. The successful appointee will be responsible for:
- Leading and managing the Planning Services team comprising 15 professional town planners;
- The design and implementation of work practices to ensure timely processing of planning applications;
- The work performance including conduct and safety, as well as the culture and climate of the team as demonstrated through the alignment of behaviours to values;
- Communicating with a range of internal and external customers and stakeholders at a senior level and negotiating positive outcomes;
- Ensuring the effective operation of the City’s Design Review Panel and preparation of Joint Development Assessment reports, as well as the timely production of Council agenda items by the Planning Services team; and
- Participation in developing and leading service improvements within the City and the Planning Services team.
About You
Holding shared leadership responsibility, you will be accountable for ensuring the team meets operational targets while maintaining a culture of continuous improvement. You must be an adaptable, experienced leader well versed in statutory town planning process and thrive in a very busy and change driven organisation. As such, you will be able to demonstrate through your CV and covering letter that you meet the capabilities that are detailed in the Position Description, which includes:
- University degree in relevant discipline such as Urban and Regional Planning;
- Knowledge of business planning, resource planning and budget management;
- Extensive knowledge of planning legislation and regulations; and
- Advanced people management skills.
