St John of God Murdoch Hospital is one of the leading private health campuses in Western Australia, and major health care hub in the southern region. Offering 507-beds, services include an emergency department, operating theatres, endoscopy suites, birth suite and maternity ward, medical library and education center.
Your role
Your role is critical to the smooth running of our Theatres Department. You will be responsible for managing the daily staffing of each theatre and communicating changes to ensure lists proceed as scheduled with minimal disruptions and delays, taking action to resolve problems as they emerge.
We now have 18 main operating theatres, angio suite, endoscopy unit and Surgicentre. You will be exposed to the latest in surgical technology, including robotics, and work with some of the highest calibre surgeons in Australia who are usually based onsite in our consulting suites.
Our Clinical Command Centre is the hub that oils the theatre machine, with information feeding into and out of a central location to co-ordinate patient flow, equipment and available beds in recovery and on the wards. Our super-organised CCC Team know exactly where patients are up to on their theatre journey at all times.
The Position
- Provide all clinical and operational direction to Anaesthetic caregivers on shift, escalating to Perioperative Flow Manager if required.
- Identify and manage any performance and or behavioural issues by Anaesthetic caregivers on shift, escalating to Clinical Nurse Manager for follow up if required.
- Finalise caregiver allocations for the next day and prepare staffing for week ahead from published rosters.
- Manage staffing challenges including sick calls and sourcing casual and Agency staff to fill gaps.
- Direct caregivers to areas of need (e.g. emergencies) in consultation with Perioperative Flow Manager.
- Support the Perioperative Flow Manager to meet demand for cases by sourcing caregivers to staff them, or flexing off, when required.
- Conduct regular rounds, checking in with caregivers and providing advice and assistance where appropriate.
- Ensuring theatre teams are updating and maintaining accurate procedure times in webPAS for CCC dashboard.
- Ensure Anaesthetic caregivers complete all duties by the end of the shift.
- Liaise with Team Leaders to ensure breaks are sufficiently covered and to advise of staff movements at end of list
- Ensure all ACORN and ASCH standards are being met during each shift by ensuring all safety and quality tasks and checks are completed.
- Support commitment to Learning and Development by ensuring caregivers are able to attend inservices and mandatory training through appropriate rostering and cover.
- Allocating Discovery Program and new caregivers to scheduled lists.
- Support the Perioperative Services Manager, Clinical Nurse Managers & Perioperative Flow Manager with communications to caregivers in theatres
- Manage daily timesheets for caregivers to complete including validation of sign off times.
Working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment, you will hold strong organisation, negotiation and communication skills with well-developed relationship management experience and conflict resolution ability. You will have experience in supervising caregivers with a proactive mindset to problem solve.
To succeed you will hold AHPRA Registration as a Registered Nurse or Midwife OR equivalent Anaesthetic Technician qualification, with relevant post registration experience in an anaesthetics perioperative care setting.

- Salary: $123,233 to $125,296 (dependent on qualification and pro rata for part time), plus 12% superannuation
- A part-time position, working 22 hours per week
