Mechanical Engineer, Dandenong South, Mechanical repair & major inspections of trucks, cranes and EWPs

Join a well-established mechanical repair and fleet management company based in Dandenong South as a hands-on Mechanical Engineer. This company has been in operation for over 30 years and offers core services such as mechanical repairs of trucks, cranes, and elevating work platforms (EWPs), major inspections of truck-mounted EWPs, crane borers and scissors lifts and equipment hire for short and long-term projects.

Your new role

In your new role as a Mechanical Engineer, you will work hands-on on the workshop floor conducting pre-strip inspections, conducting non-destructive testing, weight testing, stability testing, producing weld procedures, and conducting QA assessments and major inspection compliance sign-offs. This is a hands-on tools Mechanical Engineer role. Therefore, it's 100% on-site.

• Conducting pre-strip inspections which include hands-on operation of equipment and performing mechanical disassembly tasks and pre-strip repairs
• Performing stability testing, weight testing, and stress testing on cranes, EWPs, and lifting equipment
• Determining scope of work required to ensure equipment is inspected, repaired, and overhauled to be compliant with Australian Standards
• Assessing machine condition and defects against the relevant Australian Standards requirements
• Developing repair procedures, including welding processes, to ensure accurate repair requirements and expectations are communicated to production staff
• Making recommendations on equipment upgrades to ensure the latest Australian Standards are satisfied as part of the major inspection process
• Developing and maintaining the major inspection project pipeline alongside Project Manager
• Assisting the Workshop Manager and Project Manager in the preparation and review of major inspection documentation, the allocation of major inspection tasks and job flow in the Workshop, including job scheduling, labour allocation, day-to-day operations, etc.
• Assisting with solving complex electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic problems by locating and providing manuals and information to workshop personnel
• Conducting design and R&D activities as required

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered for this position

• Qualifications -
• Trade qualification as Mobile Plant, Diesel Mechanic or similar trade qualification is highly regarded
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology would be highly regarded
• Skills -
• Mechanical Engineering, Machine Design and CAD skills
• Hands-on Mechanical & Electrical repair experience highly regarded
• Understanding of Australian Standards and referencing standards to repair processes and procedures
• Project Management

• Licences -
• Forklift Licence - ideal
• Heavy Vehicle Licence (Heavy Rigid) - ideal
• Project Management skills
