About the Opportunity

DVNQ is looking for Advanced Specialist Domestic and Family Violence Advocates (Level 5) based in Townsville, QLD.

As an Advanced Specialist DFV Advocate, your role is pivotal both within DVNQ and as part of our embedded program with QPS and other partner agencies. Reporting to the Team Leader, this role provides specialist DFV support through trauma-informed risk assessment, safety planning, case management, and referrals. In addition, you will take on leadership responsibilities, including mentoring other advocates, supervising service delivery, and working in embedded police partnerships to deliver innovative, holistic responses to DFV.

This is a Permanent Full-Time position.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide trauma-informed crisis response, including risk and needs assessments and safety planning.

Deliver services grounded in a feminist understanding of the gendered nature of DFV.

Coordinate emergency accommodation and home safety upgrades.

Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure comprehensive, holistic client support.

Assist clients in navigating court processes and obtaining protection orders.

Participate in community education, awareness campaigns, and advocacy initiatives.

Mentor and supervise Level 4 DFV Advocates to ensure high-quality service delivery.

Lead trauma-informed practice development and court program coordination.

Engaging with partner agencies, including working within police stations, to support victim-survivors and improve system integration.

Drive continuous improvement projects, leading initiatives, and revising practice manuals in collaboration with leadership.

Qualifications and Experience:

Degree level qualification in a relevant human services discipline (or 5 years’ experience in a similar field will be considered).

Minimum of 3 years’ full time equivalent professional experience in a relevant human services discipline.

Advanced experience working with current legislation (Domestic and Family Violence Act 2012, Child Protection Act 1999), Common Risk Assessment Framework and DFV Information Sharing Guidelines.

Skills and Competencies:

In-depth knowledge of DFV legislation, best practices, and trauma-informed approaches.

Strong decision-making and case-management skills.

Ability to communicate complex information sensitively and effectively.

Demonstrated cultural knowledge and ability to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples Understanding of the complex ways in which children are harmed through experiencing violence.

Able to consult and collaborate with a wide range of organisations and stakeholders.

High level of digital literacy and experience with client record-keeping systems.

Experience mentoring and supervising DFV practitioners.

Advanced decision-making and practice leadership, including working within embedded service models.

Ability to coordinate legal clinics and court work and engage with agencies like QPS.

Required Screening:

Current QLD C Class Driver’s License which must remain current during the term of employment.

Working with Children Check (Blue Card) which must remain current during the term of employment.

Australia: National Police Check Clearance – at organisation expense.
