The Sydney Harbour Federation Trust (the Harbour Trust) is an Australian Government agency that protects and manages some of the most historically significant foreshore sites on Sydney Harbour including Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour, Woolwich Dock and Parklands in Woolwich, Sub Base Platypus in North Sydney, Georges Heights, Middle Head and Chowder Bay in Mosman, North Head Sanctuary in Manly, Marine Biological Station in Watsons Bay and Macquarie Lightstation in Vaucluse.

The Role

The Project Manager - Minor Works will develop and manage capital works and operational projects, requiring project planning, preparation of specifications, procurement of consultants and contractors, relationship management (particularly with internal Planning and Heritage teams) and contract management.

The role works with the Program Manager to establish and comply with project governance structures including steering committees (Project Control Groups) and internal working groups to ensure co-ordination across all teams in the Harbour Trust.

This role is offered on a full-time basis, for a fixed term period until 30 June 2026.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications, attributes, skills and knowledge:

Develop and manage a range of minor capital works and operational projects to deliver the Harbour Trust’s objectives, including:

-Preparation of project plans, budgets specifications, scope works, programmes, resource plans, procurement plans and contract management plans.

-Managing procurement through tenders, quotations and negotiations.

-Managing contracts with external providers to ensure that services are provided in accordance with agreed quality standards, budget and timeframes.

-Coordinating activities and resources with internal and external stakeholders, conducting negotiations and delivering reports.

Provide high level strategic advice and support to the Manager on the development, implementation, management and reporting of projects, and ensure Management are fully briefed on the status of projects.

Develop and maintain a range of collaborative networks across the Harbour Trust to support the delivery of projects and provide feedback on the implementation process and provide expertise in assisting with events and tenancy requirements such as audits, conditional assessments and procurement.

Prepare and deliver a range of strategic and operational documents as required, including briefing papers, discussion papers, reports, submissions and responses to information requests and support the development of project management methodologies and processes across the Harbour Trust.

Manage the risk and health and safety requirements of the projects in line with legislation and the Harbour Trust’s WH&S procedures and standards.

Salary and Benefits

$120,459-$133,846 per annum, plus superannuation.

Selection Criteria

Demonstrated experience and expertise in managing capital works and operational projects, from planning through to design and successful delivery, and contract management, including applying standards, legislation and Commonwealth policy to the projects such as buildings, contract administration, heritage works, safety and procurement.

Proven ability to manage resources, both human and financial across multiple projects with experience in preparing budgets and managing expenditure.

Knowledge of construction and maintenance methods, and demonstrated experience in ensuring specifications and works achieve an appropriate standard.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to negotiate with clients and contractors, to report, provide briefings and to interpret contracts and specifications.

Demonstrated ability to prioritise, time manage and manage project workload with competing priorities and demands.

Knowledge and working experience in managing risk and health and safety of all involved in the project/s.

Current Driver Licence.

Willing to undertake a Police Check.

Australian citizenship or the ability to work in Australia.

Desirable

Understanding and appreciation of heritage issues.

Qualifications

Relevant tertiary qualifications in project management and extensive experience in the building and services industry.

White card – general construction induction card.

Further qualifications in architecture, engineering or construction management would be viewed favourably.
