An exciting opportunity has opened for a Senior Financial Accountant to join a leading public sector organisation on a contract basis with a permanent role at the end. The role is ideally suited to a technically strong accountant who thrives in fast-paced, compliance-focused environments and is ready to make a meaningful impact in a purpose-led institution.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate monthly financial close and account reviews.
• Oversee preparation of annual statutory financial statements and external compliance reports.
• Deliver expert advice on accounting standards, risk, governance, and legislative compliance.
• Draft technical accounting papers in line with the Financial Management Act and AASB standards.
• Engage directly with auditors, resolving issues and managing key relationships.
• Maintain integrity of general ledger, fixed asset register, and banking operations.
• Drive internal control development, process improvement, and reporting enhancements.
• Provide coaching, documentation, and training to uplift financial capability across the function.

Must Haves

• Degree qualified with over 10 years' experience in accounting or financial compliance.
• CPA, CA, or equivalent full professional membership required.
• Strong technical grasp of Australian Accounting Standards, audit preparation, and financial reporting frameworks.
• Clear communicator with experience influencing and advising senior non-finance stakeholders.
• Strong Excel skills and systems literacy (ERP experience highly regarded).
• Collaborative, detail-oriented and committed to continuous improvement.

Desirable

• Experience in large, complex organisations in the NFP space.
• Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline.
