Murdoch Active promotes the health and wellbeing of students, staff, and the wider community through quality sport, fitness, and recreation programs. Our services support the University's teaching, research, and community engagement, helping create a vibrant and inclusive campus experience.

We offer a range of programs and facilities-including the Active Gym, Sports and Recreation Hall, indoor/outdoor courts, and playing fields-designed to enhance student life and foster strong connections within and beyond the University.

Your New Role!

The Gym Officer is responsible for the provision and assistance of day-to-day operations of the Recreation and Fitness Centre and associated fitness and well-being programs. You will operate under limited supervision to deliver appropriate programs and services instructed by the Fitness & Wellbeing coordinator.

Your key responsibilities will include -

  • Assisting in the delivery of maintenance, hygiene and cleaning of all Recreation and Fitness Centre equipment as per centre management requirements.
  • Take ownership of the provision of member services including and not limited to bookings, fitness appointments, membership sales and maintenance.
  • Work collaboratively with the Murdoch Active Staff to promote ongoing member-based events and engagement opportunities, e.g. group fitness class release launches, member challenges, social events, etc.
  • Supervise the University's practical students if required.
  • Work collaboratively with Murdoch University staff to promote and administer ongoing student practicum placement events and engagement opportunities.
  • Assist with the promotion of Murdoch Active through external events such as Open Day.
  • When required, assist with any roster issues that may arise on shift pertaining to Group Fitness Instructors, Personal Trainers, Yoga Instructors.
  • Lead and instruct fitness classes, appraisals and fitness assessments for correct and safe exercise programming to meet individual member needs with relevant qualifications maintained and updated.
  • Provide First Aid in the event of illness or injury to members, visitors and staff.

This casual role attracts a competitive casual rate of $45.05 p/hr - $49.38 p/hr inclusive of 25% casual loading plus 11.5% employer superannuation contributions.

Selection Criteria:

  • Minimum AQF qualification of Certificate III (Certificate IV highly desired).
  • Demonstrated and effective leadership, organisational, people and time management skills.
  • Effective written skills, verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of computers and their application in the sport and recreation industry, with proven proficiency in cash handling and EFTPOS transactions
  • Previous sport/fitness experience in a tertiary education environment.
  • Experience in Personal Training and Coaching.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
