About the Role
An exciting opportunity has become available for a dynamic and experienced Community Engagement Specialist to join the team at the City of Kwinana. We are searching for an innovative and enthusiastic person who is adept at building great relationships – both internally and externally.
Are you looking for a role with impact? As the Community Engagement Specialist, you will continue to build and shape how the City engages with our friendly, eager and willing community on a range of diverse topics, from playgrounds through to long term strategies that will influence how Kwinana looks in the decades to come. You will be able to personally improve civic participation while working collaboratively with others, to ensure the right decisions are made alongside our residents and community.
Reporting to the Coordinator Engagement and Place, you will work closely with an outstanding team, who care deeply about serving our local community. Practically, you will use the City’s Engagement Framework to help improve communication internally and externally, all while building effective partnerships to promote the exchange of information and ideas. You will be the catalyst in supporting and encouraging a diverse range of community voices to have a say and participate in decisions that affect them.
As the go-to specialist in this field, you will champion community engagement and continue building capability across the organisation, whilst driving an organisational culture that centres around deliberate and meaningful interactions with community, in the interest of fostering strong and meaningful relationships.
What to Expect?
Within 3 months you will;
Be the City’s champion of the Engagement Framework, as well as be the Chairperson on the internal Engagement Champions Cross Functional Team.
Understand the different departments within the City, and their role in building a thriving community.
You will have begun to establish relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to the engagement portfolio.
Be attending key opportunities for engagement within the community.
Within 6 months you will;
Be able to confidently champion the City’s online engagement tool, Love My Kwinana and, along with other members of the Engagement Team, provide back-end support and advice to other internal users.
Have comprehensive relationships with internal stakeholders, and a good grasp of key community champions and community organisations to support the delivery of the City’s engagement projects.
Be providing coaching to other teams in how to plan and deliver their engagement projects. This will include hosting/coaching in-person workshops, stalls or information nights with a view to upskilling other staff to be able to lead the delivery of in-person engagements in the future.
About You
To be successful in this role, we envisage that you will need the following:
Tertiary qualifications in relevant discipline or extensive relevant industry experience in a direct (or related) community engagement position.
An extensive understanding of contemporary community engagement and stakeholder management strategies.
Experience or study in the IAP2 framework.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other staff to promote positive engagement practices.
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills; including peer coaching and workshop facilitation skills.
Highly effective time management and organisational skills with an ability to prioritise and work on multiple projects concurrently.
Highly developed computer literacy skills demonstrated in strategic document development, project planning, report writing and correspondence.
Current valid C Class Drivers Licence, Provide First Aid and Police Clearance.
Ability to work after hours as required and undertake physical manual handling task for delivering engagement at events and activations.
Desirable
Experience with the Granicus (previously Engagement HQ / Bang the Table) digital engagement platform and/or similar engagement software.
Previous Local Government knowledge and experience.
