SMYL Community Services is seeking passionate and community-minded Jobs & Skills Officers to join our team in Northam. We have both full-time and part-time positions available.
As a not-for-profit organisation, our vision is to improve the overall welfare of the community by providing appropriate social services, education, employment and training.
About the role
Working as part of Western Australia’s Jobs & Skills Centre network, you’ll support people in the Wheatbelt to explore training pathways, build employability skills and move toward meaningful employment.
You’ll work directly with jobseekers, local employers, training providers and schools to deliver practical career support and strengthen community employment opportunities.
Key responsibilities
• Work one-on-one with clients to develop career plans and support them to achieve employment or training goals
• Provide job search assistance, resume and application support and interview preparation workshops
• Assist people to access online tools, training options, tickets and employment resources
• Build and maintain relationships with employers, schools and community services
• Provide apprenticeships and traineeships information and employer support advice
• Deliver school-based career workshops and outreach services in the region
• Maintain accurate records and reporting requirements
Who we’re looking for
You’ll thrive in this role if you enjoy supporting people and working with your community. Ideally you will have:
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Experience working with diverse community groups
• Confidence supporting people with job search and training pathways
• The ability to deliver group workshops and one-on-one support
• Good computer and admin skills
• A positive, approachable and proactive attitude
Experience in employment services, training, education, youth work or community services is highly regarded, but not essential – we value real-world experience and people skills.
About you
• Possess a C-class driving license
• Police Clearance
• Able to obtain a Working with Children Check
• Be willing to complete a Cert IV Career Development within 12 months – SMYL will cover the cost
