About the work environment
The Recruitment Team is part of the broader People Command within the Australian Federal Police and consists in the following functions:
- Talent Acquisition Services
Recruitment of professional and operational support staff, including talent attraction and the provision of strategic advice and support to internal clients.
- Sworn Recruitment
The Sworn Police and Protective Service Officers Recruitment team is tasked with administering national bulk recruitment processes year round, and supports candidates through their journey towards becoming a Police, or Protective Service Officer. The team also manage sworn promotional recruitment rounds and lateral recruitment.
- Emerging Talent
Tasked with managing the recruitment of our Graduates, First Nations and internship programs.
All teams also provide expert recruitment advice and services to our internal clients, represents the AFP brand as the first point of customer service for candidates, and ultimately supports the strategic intent of the AFP by recruiting the people we need, both now and for the future.
About the roles
Two exciting opportunities are available for experienced and dynamic recruitment professionals to help shape the agency's future workforce, and contribute to the recruitment of talent in the AFP. A merit pool will also be created and used to fill future vacancies across the Recruitment function.
Sworn Recruitment Operational Team Leader - Band 6 (this position can be worked from Canberra or Melbourne)
This role is responsible for leading a small team within the sworn recruitment team and providing clear direction and support ensuring the team manage priorities and deadlines efficiently and to a high standard. You will have a relatively high level of autonomy and will be responsible for workload allocation and exercise sound judgement to ensure efficient outputs. Along side managing a small team you will be involved in projects to enhance the sworn recruitment experience for our candidates and stakeholders. Ideally you will have relevant experience and knowledge of bulk recruitment processes, the current labour market and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Collaboration, strong attention to detail and a sense of urgency will be important personal traits. Duties of the role include:
- Provide day-to-day supervision of a small team, monitor work performance and workloads and foster teamwork to ensure deadlines are met
- Oversee on-going bulk recruitment processes, ensuring timely progression of candidates through our ‘pipeline’ and placing candidates on scheduled recruit courses throughout the year
- Lead and mentor staff in the delivery of best-practice recruitment processes
- Identify and lead projects and continuous improvement that support the AFP, its vision, and its strategic priorities
- Facilitate and assess at Assessment Centres face to face and virtually
- Participate in strategic discussions and support leaders in forward planning
- Prepare recruitment performance metrics, reports and provide statistical data and insights on recruitment related activities for our executive that enable effective decision making
- Contribute to the review and evaluation of recruitment policies and processes to enhance the delivery of recruitment to the AFP
Talent Acquisition Partner - Band 6 (this position can be worked from Canberra only)
As a Talent Acquisition Partner you will work closely with our Commands to understand their talent needs, develop attraction strategies and guide them through the recruitment process with advice and processing support. This is an exciting time to join the recruitment team with major reform projects taking place to enhance the stakeholder experience and introduce recruitment best practices. As a Talent Acquisition Partner, you are a strategic influencer and collaborative partner to the business who understands the importance of relationships. You will play an advisory role to your portfolio of stakeholders for a range of recruitment and HR related queries, and use data to help inform decisions relating to talent attraction. Duties of the role include:
- Researching and providing strategic advice to Hiring Managers on appropriate sourcing and candidate attraction strategies to achieve desired recruitment outcomes
- Maintain oversight of the full recruitment process and provide advice on appropriate selection methodologies
- Creating, modifying and refining recruitment processes, procedures and guidelines to ensure efficiency and legislative compliance
- Collaborate with Marketing Teams on larger campaigns and develop and implement employee value propositions in consultation with business areas
- Case management of sensitive and complex recruitment matters
- Overseeing financial administration including drafting procurement proposals (when required)
- Monitoring and managing your teams priorities, including planning activities, allocation of workload and ensuring high quality outcomes within required deadlines
- Collating and analysing data for recruitment reporting purposes and contributing to other strategic project work
Essential Requirements
- You must be an Australian Citizen at time of application
- A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and apply a high level of attention to detail
- You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Minimum 3 years previous experience working in an internal recruitment position or within an agency recruitment environment
- Experience working in a ‘bulk’ or volume recruitment environment and contemporary understanding of Assessment Centres (applies to Sworn Operational Team Leader role only)
- Experience using recruitment systems / applicant tracking systems
Desirable Requirements
- Possession of, or working towards, a qualification in Human Resources
- Previous experience of creating bespoke recruitment strategies for hard to fill roles including the use of Social media (Linkedin) to source and attract candidates
- Previous experience using SAP Success Factors recruitment system
- Ability to travel to attend Assessment Centre (applied to Sworn Operational Team Leader role only)
