Human Resources - Work Health & Safety Officer. (Technical)
Length: 3rd Nov - Fri 29th May 2026 (6 Month Contract)
Location: Western Sydney
Rate: $74.23 / hour + Super
Role:
This role is primarily responsible for establishing and maintaining a working environment, which provides for the health, safety and well-being of all employees of Council together with any other such persons or organisations as defined under the provisions of the Workplace Health and associated Acts.
Responsibilities:
- Developing, advocating for, implementing, and continually monitoring Council's Work Health and Safety (WHS) Policies, Procedures, and work instructions to ensure operational compliance.
- Demonstrating proactive interest and strong leadership in all WHS matters, fostering a positive safety culture across the organisation.
- Coordinating and participating in regular safety audits and managing the Corrective Actions process to ensure timely and effective resolution of identified issues.
- Systematically identifying organisational safety training needs and facilitating appropriate development programs for staff.
- Ensuring strict adherence to State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) Self-Insurer Audit requirements and broader WHS Safety System standards.
- Preparing and coordinating safety performance data and statistics to deliver accurate and insightful reporting for Council management.
About you:
- A basic understanding of WHS audit processes
- Experience in a local government environment
- Experience in a similar role working with a SafeWork NSW Self Insurer Audit and Safety System.
- Tertiary qualifications within relevant field of Work Health and Safety (WHS) or related discipline
- Capable of demonstrating a capacity to work in WHS in a multi-dimensional industry
- Proven experience in WHS and understanding of WHS system management
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent communication skills
- Current class C driver's licence.
