About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and safety-minded professional to join a major government agency as a Safety Officer (Contract).
In this role, you will support the delivery of the agency's Work Health and Safety (WHS) initiatives to ensure a safe, compliant, and positive work environment. Working as part of the Safety and Insurance team, you'll assist in implementing, monitoring, and promoting workplace health and safety systems that align with the agency's commitment to innovation, teamwork, and community wellbeing.
Essential Requirements
Tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety or a related discipline
Demonstrated experience in WHS system management and compliance
Knowledge of the NSW Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and WHS Regulation 2017
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Current Class C Driver's Licence
Key Duties
Under the guidance of the Coordinator Safety, the Safety Officer will:
Develop, implement and monitor WHS policies, procedures and work instructions
Conduct workplace inspections, safety audits and assist with incident investigations
Identify hazards, monitor corrective actions, and promote continuous safety improvement
Prepare and maintain WHS documentation, data, and reporting in line with SIRA and agency requirements
Support the coordination of safety training and health monitoring activities
Provide practical advice and support to employees, contractors and Health & Safety Representatives
Contribute to fostering a positive safety culture across the organisation
