About AFAC
AFAC is Australia and New Zealand’s National Council for fire and emergency Services and represents 36-member organisations who are totalling over 288,000 firefighters and emergency services workers.
AFAC seeks to amplify the collective capability and capacity of emergency management organisations, support them to work together to achieve better outcomes for the sector, and the communities they serve.
AFAC does this through an extensive and mature collaboration network, developing national doctrine or ways of working, and delivering project or grant-based work including professional services, software applications, aircraft contract management, cross border deployment of emergency services personnel and other nationally significant activities such as the delivery the national conference and National Emergency Services Memorial ceremony.
AFAC is also the managing partner of the Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience (AIDR). AIDR is the National Institute for disaster risk reduction and resilience and collaborates across sectors to strengthen the resilience of Australian communities to disasters.
About the Position
We are seeking a Business and Test Analyst to join AFAC on a 12-month fixed term contract.
This role plays a critical part in the delivery of AFAC’s Web Transformation Project, which will expand and modernise AFAC’s online presence. The position will ensure high-quality digital solutions are delivered on time through effective business analysis, testing, and collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams and subject matter experts.
In addition, you may contribute to other digital projects and technology implementations within AFAC’s IT team.
Key Responsibilities
Facilitate workshops, stakeholder interviews, and discovery sessions to gather and validate business requirements.
Document business requirements and translate them into clear technical specifications.
Map current and future business processes using industry-standard methodologies (e.g., BPMN).
Develop test cases and acceptance criteria in collaboration with stakeholders.
Support and coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure solutions meet business needs.
Assist with ‘go-live’ planning, delivery, and early life support.
Maintain high-quality project documentation (requirements, process flows, collateral) in SharePoint and Confluence.
Provide regular updates to project leadership and identify opportunities for process improvements.
About You
You are an organised, detail-oriented professional with strong analytical skills and the ability to translate complex ideas into clear and actionable requirements. You thrive in a collaborative environment, working across both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Essential skills and experience include:
Proven experience as a Business Analyst in digital or web projects from discovery through to delivery.
Experience mapping business processes, running workshops, and writing acceptance criteria.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Understanding of website accessibility, usability, and user experience (UX).
Knowledge of Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
Familiarity with digital technologies and web content management systems (CMS).
Website development or implementation experience (highly regarded).
