About us

At the City of Bayswater, we believe that great communities are built by people who care. That’s why we’re guided by strong values, shared purpose, and a real passion for creating meaningful change. We prioritise sustainability, community wellbeing, and welcoming places where everyone can thrive. As an employer, we’re committed to a culture that values inclusion, balance, and personal growth. Whether you're starting your journey or building on experience, we offer the chance to develop your skills, contribute meaningfully to the community, and help shape the future of a vibrant and evolving community.

About the Position

As the Works Supervisor, you'll be overseeing contracts to deliver capital projects for ongoing new infrastructure and maintenance of the City’s engineering assets. You'll manage day-to-day operations, coordinate people, plant, and contractors, and make sure jobs get done safely, on time, and to standard. You’ll handle everything from scheduling and performance management to inspections and contractor oversight, while keeping safety front and centre. The role also involves estimating jobs, managing budgets, supporting project delivery (including some night works), and making sure work meets the City’s specifications. You’ll work closely with the Coordinator to meet targets, keep things running smoothly, and ensure the team is trained, supported, and performing well.

About you

We're looking for someone with solid experience managing civil projects—someone who knows their way around roadworks, drainage, concrete, footpaths, and crossovers. You’ll need to be confident leading crews and contractors on site, keeping jobs running smoothly and safely while getting the best out of your team. Strong communication is key—whether it’s giving clear instructions, writing up minor reports, or dealing with residents and stakeholders. You’ll be good at planning, solving problems on the fly, and sticking to budgets and processes. The right person will also live the City’s values, help build a positive team culture, and know how to handle change when it comes.

To be successful, you’ll need a White Card, HR licence, and BWTM ticket, along with either a qualification in civil engineering (or similar) or at least 3 years’ hands-on experience in civil construction, ideally in a supervisory role.
