QBuild is a commercialised business unit of the Queensland Government. It has been Queensland Government's builder for over 160 years, playing an important role in communities across the state by building and maintaining government-owned assets such as schools, social housing, police stations and correctional and health facilities.
About the role:
The primary purpose of the position is to manage the coordination of the construction projects/programs, including a suite of tasks associated with program development, design management, cost planning, tendering, estimating, contract administration and management of new construction and renovation works where QBuild is the Principal Contractor.
Please note: this role will require regular travel to other locations within Queensland, which may include overnight stays of up to 4 nights.
Key responsibilities:
- Ensuring the effective operational delivery of QBuild partners' projects and programs, by managing the productivity of the program resources, monitoring performance, apprentice competencies and initiating remedial action as necessary, as well as maintaining a pipeline of works for Field staff across the region.
- Ensuring that minor works and construction program projects are delivered in line with the Queensland Government's Capital Works Framework.
- Initiating and participating in procurement activities for construction and maintenance contractors, including undertaking the role of Superintendents Representative on applicable construction/maintenance contracts.
- Managing, coordinating and integrating a workforce of office and field staff involved in product development, product delivery and partner liaison activities.
- Planning and resolving resourcing issues and ensuring the appropriate allocation and management of resources within each of the operational areas, to achieve a consistently high level of quality in the delivery of building services and project management with budgetary, resource and time constraints.
- Managing field staff and apprentices, ensuring effective utilisation on a quality pipeline of work including construction projects, planned works and upgrades along with maintenance work, as required.
- Maintaining and developing effective working relationships through leading and developing individuals and teams.
Preferred skills and experience:
- A trade qualification related to the construction industry would be highly desirable.
- A QBCC site supervisor's licence would be highly desirable.
- A certificate IV in workplace health & safety would be highly desirable.
- Be able to obtain security clearance to work on projects located within operational SEQ correctional centres and detention centres.
