About the role

At Smith and Co Group, we are seeking an experienced Finance Manager to join our dynamic team in our Burleigh Heads office. In this full-time position, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of our thriving Painting and Rendering Company. As a key member of our leadership team, you will ensure the financial success and growth of the business, with a strong focus on automation, cash flow management, risk mitigation, and funds optimisation tailored to the construction and subcontracting environment.

What you'll be doing

Manage all aspects of financial reporting, including the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements

Oversee invoicing, progress claims, contracts, retentions, and payment schedules in line with industry regulations and contractual obligations

Provide strategic financial advice and recommendations to the senior management team

Oversee the company's budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management processes, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operations and growth

Drive funds optimisation strategies to maximise return on capital and efficient allocation of resources

Implement strong risk management frameworks to safeguard the company’s financial stability, including debtor management and contract compliance

Ensure compliance with QBCC, BIF Act (QLD) and all relevant financial regulations and accounting standards

Liaise with external auditors, tax professionals, and financial institutions to maintain the integrity of the company's financial records

Have the mindset around automation and system improvements to streamline finance operations (claims, invoicing, cost tracking, reporting)

Apply advanced problem-solving and analytical skills to improve financial performance and support commercial decision-making

What we're looking for

Tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance, with CPA or CA accreditation

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior finance role, ideally within construction, subcontracting, or trade services

Strong technical accounting and financial analysis skills

Proven experience in managing progress claims, variations, retentions, and compliance with construction payment schedules

Demonstrated ability in risk management and funds optimisation

Strong business acumen and the ability to provide strategic financial guidance to senior leadership

Proven leadership skills in building and developing high-performing finance teams

Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, particularly with builders, contractors, and clients

Proficient in financial software, automation platforms, and data analysis tools
