The Resource Recovery Officer plays a pivotal role in shaping how we manage our City’s waste. From driving best practice service delivery and providing high-level customer support, to leading the charge on service optimisation and resource recovery projects. This challenging role offers the chance to deliver a real and meaningful impact for our community and environment.

Position Description - Resource Recovery Officer

This is a 1.0 FTE position on a 3-year contract.

Key responsibilities

Design, implement and deliver innovative waste and resource recovery projects aligned to Council’s strategies and priorities.

Oversee and build strong relationships with our waste service contractors, ensuring services are delivered to a high standard and in line with contract terms.

Lead the resolution of customer issues and service requests with a proactive, solution-focused approach.

Drive service optimisation by reviewing performance data, identifying gaps and streamlining processes to lift outcomes.

Prepare business cases, reports and grant applications that drive innovation and funding opportunities.

Provide expert advice on all things waste—kerbside services, public bins, system design and more.

Develop dashboards and reporting frameworks to track performance and uncover opportunities for improvement.

Research and review industry trends, policies and technologies to keep Council ahead of the curve.

About you

Highly developed communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences.

A proven ability to lead continuous improvement projects and change initiatives in a service based environment.

Innovative thinking combined with a practical, evidence-based approach to problem solving and negotiation.

Lateral thinking skills to navigate complex challenges with no established precedents.

Strong project management, planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and meet competing deadlines.

Initiative and the ability to work autonomously while delivering on expectations.

Comprehensive research and data analysis skills to inform sound decision-making.

The ability to build and maintain positive, productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Strong project and contractor management acumen.

Competent IT skills and the ability to confidently use corporate systems in day-to-day work.

High standards of personal integrity, professionalism and alignment with City of Tea Tree Gully’s corporate values.

Strong report writing and business case development skills.

Hold a current South Australian Class C driver’s licence.

Hold a current DHS Working with Children Check (or be willing to obtain one).

Willingness to undertake a pre-employment medical assessment.
