The Role:
We are seeking an APS6 Complex Case Manager (Performance and Conduct) to join the People team on a non-ongoing contract or temporary s26 transfer. Based in Canberra, this is a full-time, newly created position.
You will take the lead on managing complex and sensitive workplace matters, including underperformance, misconduct, and Code of Conduct cases. You will be responsible for conducting investigations, preparing briefs for decision-makers, and ensuring cases are managed in line with legislation, policy, and APS guidelines. You will also act as a trusted adviser to managers and staff, providing practical coaching and guidance to build capability in handling performance and conduct issues.
Role Responsibilities:
- Manage complex HR cases, including Code of Conduct, underperformance, and misconduct investigations.
- Provide advice, coaching, and support to managers and staff on conduct and performance matters.
- Draft high-quality briefs, reports, and formal notices.
- Oversee the procurement of external investigators and liaise with internal stakeholders.
- Contribute to policy development, governance reporting, and APS-wide forums.
Your Skills and Experience:
To be considered, you will need:
- Demonstrated experience in case management, investigations, and complaints handling.
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- High ethical standards, sound judgement, and resilience in sensitive situations.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes.
- HR qualifications or government investigations/complaints handling experience (desirable).
