The Department:
This department leads important workforce programs and delivers policies that support the Australian community. The team works collaboratively to provide advice and develop frameworks that impact workplaces nationally.
The Role:
We are seeking an experienced APS6 Policy Officer with a background in industrial or workplace relations or HR policy. This is a hands-on role working in a small policy team.
You will report to an EL1 and operate with a high level of independence. The management style is hands-off and trusting – timelines and broad direction will be provided, and you will be expected to run with the work.
The engagement for this role is flexible and is open to non-ongoing (fixed-term) or temporary transfers, with the view to become permanent. A permanent transfer could be supported also.
Role Responsibilities:
- Draft and update workplace relations and HR policy materials
- Provide interpretation of WR legislation and frameworks
- Undertake research and analysis to support policy proposals
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies
- Support senior staff in providing policy advice and small project delivery
Your Skills and Experience:
To be considered you will need
- APS experience, ideally at the APS6 level (essential)
- Strong background in workplace relations, industrial relations or HR policy
- Proven experience drafting, updating, and interpreting policy and legislation
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
