About YWCA Canberra:

YWCA Canberra is a respected feminist, not-for-profit community organisation which has been providing community services and representing women’s issues in the Canberra community since its establishment in 1929. Today, we provide leading and innovative services to women and the broader Canberra community in the areas of children’s services, community services, housing, youth services, personal and professional training, and women’s leadership.

As a values-based organisation, and the only Canberra based Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (WGEA), YWCA Canberra is a great place to work. We have a strong track record in building long-term, sustainable careers with excellent conditions (including charitable salary sacrificing and above award salaries) together with a supportive work environment for all employees to thrive.

About the Role

Next Door is a distinct and impactful service dedicated to supporting older women to rapidly secure or maintain safe, suitable, and affordable housing. Operated by a skilled and compassionate team including a Team Leader and three Case Managers. Next Door provides holistic, wraparound support to address a broad range of needs beyond housing.

Our approach is grounded in gender and trauma-informed practice, with a strong focus on promoting wellbeing, independence, and social inclusion for older women.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Case Manager to join our team. In this role, you will deliver individualised, specialist case management and coordination to older women experiencing or at risk of homelessness. You will work closely with clients to develop tailored, person-centred plans that support short, medium, and long-term outcomes in housing, health, wellbeing, and social connection.

Key Responsibilities

Provide strengths-based, gender and trauma-informed case management and coordination.

Support older women to access safe housing, tenancy advice, and other essential services.

Facilitate warm referrals to strategic partners and community services.

Promote social inclusion through engagement with community groups and activities.

Advocate for clients and participate in case coordination and review conferences.

Build and maintain strong relationships with service providers and stakeholders.

Support older women’s self-determination, agency, and independence.

About You

You are a compassionate and skilled professional with a deep understanding of the challenges faced by older women experiencing housing insecurity. You bring a collaborative, client-focused approach and are committed to empowering women through respectful, inclusive, and culturally sensitive support.

The right person will have

Minimum Diploma of Community Services or equivalent; tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, or human services highly desirable.

Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable and disadvantaged populations.

Experience supporting older women, including those from diverse backgrounds (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, CALD, LGBTQI+, non-binary and female-identifying).

Strong knowledge of homelessness, housing systems, and the issues affecting older women.

Proven skills in case management, advocacy, outreach, and stakeholder engagement.
