About the role
The Contract Performance Officer sits within the Waste and Recycling Branch, Infrastructure and Amenity Division and offers an exciting opportunity to ensure Melbourne’s essential waste and recycling services are delivered to the highest standards.
This role plays a key part in safeguarding service quality, strengthening provider accountability, and supporting the strategic goals of the City of Melbourne in building a sustainable and liveable city. Based primarily on site in our vibrant Melbourne CBD office, you’ll enjoy being in the heart of the city with cafes, shops and transport right on your doorstep.
You will work closely with service providers, building managers, and internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with contract requirements, uphold Chain of Responsibility obligations, and identify efficiencies in waste management – particularly across commercial premises. This role is critical in maintaining uninterrupted services amidst the evolving challenges of our growing city.

Deliver contract performance audit programs and ensure compliance with management plans and Chain of Responsibility requirements
Conduct inspections and audits to identify issues affecting service delivery or public amenity
Analyse performance against KPIs and prepare clear management reports highlighting trends and opportunities
Independently assess waste management systems in buildings and work with stakeholders to optimise services

About you
You are a detail-driven contract compliance professional with the ability to build strong relationships and influence outcomes. You bring excellent communication skills, confidence in conducting audits, and a passion for improving services that benefit the community.
You may also be:
Comfortable working independently in diverse environments (on-site and off-site)
Skilled in analysing complex data and translating it into practical insights for improvement
What your experience might look like
Essential
Waste management service contract experience
2–4 years’ experience in contract compliance and management, including auditing and performance measurement
Proven ability to monitor service provider performance, manage audits, and resolve service issues
Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to liaise and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders
Proficiency with computer systems, including databases, spreadsheets, and reporting tools
Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality customer service aligned with organisational values
A current Victorian Driver’s Licence
Desirable
Understanding of NHVR and Chain of Responsibility obligations in a transport, logistics, or waste context
Experience engaging with building managers and service providers to implement improvement opportunities
