About the Role

Are you passionate about protecting people and the environment?

The Public Transport Authority (PTA) is seeking an experienced Asbestos Coordinator to play a vital role in managing our environmental responsibilities. This position provides professional advice and technical expertise to support the Environmental Manager, ensuring the PTA meets its statutory obligations and maintains best practice through its Environmental Management System.

In this role, you will plan and manage the PTA’s contaminated sites and asbestos programs, oversee reporting requirements to the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER), and provide expert guidance across the organisation. You will liaise with managers, contractors, government agencies, and community groups to achieve positive environmental outcomes while ensuring risks are effectively identified and managed.

This is a unique opportunity to combine your technical expertise, project management skills, and stakeholder engagement experience in a role that makes a real impact on the safety and sustainability of WA’s public transport network.

About You

To excel in this role, you will possess the following core competencies:

A degree in environmental science/management or equivalent experience, with extensive knowledge of the Contaminated Sites Act 2003, NEPM (2013), and their application.

Proven experience managing contaminated sites and asbestos programs, including investigations, remediation, monitoring, and delivery of complex projects subject to third-party audit.

Strong background in procuring and managing environmental consultants, with excellent interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with stakeholders.

Highly developed skills in analysing data, identifying risks, and providing sound recommendations for environmental management.

Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage priorities effectively, and apply advanced computer skills across databases, spreadsheets, and reporting tools.
