Are you an experienced Chief Actuary with Personal Injury experience looking for your next career opportunity? We have a fantastic temporary opportunity with a high likelihood of extension, or even permanent capacity.
The Role:
My Client is a NSW State Government department located in Sydney CBD & Gosford who is seeking a highly experienced and visionary Chief Actuary to lead the establishment of our new internal actuarial capability. This is a unique chance to shape the future of actuarial services within a NSW government regulator that oversees critical personal injury schemes, including Workers Compensation, Compulsory Third Party (CTP), and Home Building Compensation.
You will be responsible for designing and implementing a hybrid operating model, transitioning from a fully outsourced model to one that integrates external expertise with a new in-house team. This role provides an opportunity for strategic leadership and advice at the executive level, directly influencing the direction and stability of NSW's personal injury schemes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of a hybrid actuarial services model.
- Advise NSW State government executive leadership team on the strategic direction, capabilities, and resources required for actuarial services.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer from external consultants to the new internal team, ensuring continuity and an uplift in scheme expertise.
- Develop and implement actuarial models and methodologies to support regulatory decision-making.
- Provide advice on potential risks to the personal injury schemes regulated by the department.
- Mentor and develop capability across the department, fostering a culture of collaboration and development.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in actuarial science with a professional qualification from the Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries Australia (FIAA).
- Extensive experience in personal injury insurance schemes is preferable.
- A proven track record in establishing actuarial functions and uplifting capability within cross-functional teams.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at executive levels.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex information to a wide range of audiences.
- Adaptability and resilience in dynamic environments, with a commitment to staying current with industry trends, legislation, and regulatory changes.
