The Organisation
The Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia Limited (AHCSA) is the peak body representing Aboriginal community-controlled health and substance misuse services in South Australia at state and national levels.
Our primary role is to be the ‘health voice’ for all Aboriginal people in South Australia. We achieve this by advocating for the community and supporting workers through our Member Services with appropriate Aboriginal health programs based on a holistic perspective of health.
Summary of the Role
AHCSA is participating in the First Nations Health Worker Traineeship program, an Australian government initiative designed to support up to 500 First Nations individuals in undertaking accredited training in the health sector to become either an Aboriginal Health Worker (AHW) or an Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP) by 2027.
The National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) is responsible for delivering the program, with AHCSA receiving funding for a Jurisdictional Traineeship Coordinator position to oversee the program's implementation in South Australia.
This position is responsible for coordinating the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker Traineeship Program in South Australia while ensuring the smooth operation of AHCSA’s RTO. The role requires direct supervision of Student Support and Administrative staff, supporting effective delivery of training, and maintaining compliance with RTO standards.
The Coordinator works closely with AHCSA’s Registered Training Organisation (RTO) Manager, Compliance and Accreditation Coordinator, and HR to ensure high-quality services for trainees and Member Services, as well as operational effectiveness within the RTO.
