The Role
Strategic Shipbuilding Directorate is looking for an APS 6 Project Risk Officer who will be accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex risk identification and analysis work within an integrated workforce. They are accountable to ensure they have knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team
Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA) team is an integrated project management team. While some of our team is based in ACT and others in WA, we maintain strong collaboration across locations through open communication and a supportive culture. The Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement consolidates multiple shipbuilding projects under a unified program delivered by a single Strategic Shipbuilder based in Henderson, WA.
Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will have a diverse range of experience and background in working in a Project team.
As an APS 6 Project Risk Officer we will require you to have considerable experience in Risk Management, including:
- Coordinate stakeholders and risk management activities within a complex project management environment, ensuring effective decision-making and governance.
- Maintenance of risk management documentation including risk management plans, risk register and the risk database. Experience with ‘Predict!’ risk management software desirable but not mandatory.
- Administer and contribute to risk management training and workshops as required.
- Review risk management practices and documents to confirm compliance with Defence policy and procedures.
- Apply internal and external professional knowledge and experience to improve risk management processes and practices.
- Build and sustain effective relationships with team members and actively participate in team work and group activities, coordination of cross-functional updates and follow-up activities.
- Contribute to integrated project planning by providing timely risk insights to inform schedule and milestone reviews.
- Support project performance tracking activities, including preparing risk-informed updates for governance forums and integrated project dashboards.
- Assist with coordination of project artefacts and workflows, including tracking deliverables, document control, and internal tasking actions.
- Engage with the Program leadership team to ensure risk considerations are embedded in program controls, decision points, and project-level planning activities.
