Laynhapuy was established in the 1970’s to represent Yolŋu interests and residents of Homelands which constitute the corporation. The main goals and objectives of the organisation are to assist our Homeland communities and our people to:
• Determine our own future
• Run and control our own affairs
• Develop self-sufficient or otherwise sustainable Homelands – standing on our Yirralka.
Laynhapuy provides health, housing and land and sea management services and support to around 30 remote Yolŋu homelands in North East Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. The organisations main base is in Yirrkala around 20km from the mining town of Nhulunbuy. The Laynhapuy Homelands are situated between a 1 and 4 hour drive from Yirrkala.
The vision for Laynhapuy is: “to determine our own future to manage our own affairs, to become self-sufficient so that the homeland mala (clans) can continue to live in peace and harmony”.
About the organisation:
Laynhapuy Homelands Aboriginal Corporation (LHAC) is a not-for-profit member-based organisation that has been in existence for more than 40 years. It was incorporated with ORIC in 2012 and before this operated as an association. Laynhapuy provides essential services across 30 homeland communities including: primary healthcare, NDIS support, aged care support, housing, municipal services, and community services. As well, Laynhapuy has its own ranger program (Yirralka Rangers).

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
· Responsible will be for the effective administration of the changeover from the Synergy Soft Enterprise System to Xero.
· Ensure effective and efficient corporate financial processes, including planning, budgeting, financial reporting, debtors and creditors, investment portfolio, grant acquittal, compliance and program funding, procurement and tendering, contracts, insurance;
· Ensure compliance with statutory and program reporting requirements;
· Ensure all financial policies and processes are best practice and maintain such on a continuous basis.
Audit and Risk Management
· Ensure the Corporation’s management of financial risk is effective, including external audit.
Information Technology and Telecommunications
· Ensure the effective and efficient operation of the Corporations’ IT infrastructure, including records management and telecommunications.
Corporate Leadership
· Work with the Chief Executive Officer to provide leadership to the staff, support and financial advice to the Board and advocacy for the Corporation on behalf of its Members;
· Promote a positive organizational culture based on the principles of responsibility, respect and compassion and exhibit these principles in all behaviours and decisions.
Key Selection Criteria:
1. Professional accountancy qualification of CPA and CA with a minimum of five years’ experience in finance management.
2. Extensive experience in and working knowledge of corporate finance, accounting standards, Australian taxation system business practices, ITM and corporate governance within an Australian context and within the Not-For-Profit sector.
3. Demonstrated management with both strategic and operational skills and experience, at a senior level.
4. Demonstrated experience in managing performance-based government contracts
5. Demonstrated high level of computer skills (eg Microsoft Office) and strong oral and written communication skills
6. Excellent working knowledge of enterprise systems and business applications and financial systems.
7. A range of cross-cultural competency skills that would enable them to mentor and work effectively with Indigenous staff and stakeholders
8. A mature and professional approach with demonstrated effective conflict resolution, negotiation and strong oral and written communication skills
9. A commitment to ethical behavior and social justice that can positively influence colleagues and community
10. Personal resilience and the ability to exercise sound and mature judgement in a complex and difficult environment
11. A high degree of self-sufficiency and the ability to work both by themselves and within a team context
Desirable:
1. Knowledge of issues facing Aboriginal people in contemporary society
2. Understanding of LHAC aims and objectives
3. Previous experience working in remote Aboriginal communities
4. Experience with Synergy Soft (Ready Tech)
