The Regional Australia Institute (RAI) is the nation’s leading voice on regional issues. They are an independent, evidence-based think tank that’s committed to shaping a stronger, more prosperous future for regional Australia. Through their national and state-based summits, they bring together regional leaders, policymakers, and changemakers to generate impact, influence decisions, and drive momentum.
We are now seeking a passionate and driven Event Manager to help bring their flagship events to life. Reporting directly to the Head of Corporate Services, this role is perfect for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, lives for the challenge of pulling together complex events, and has the confidence to make big decisions that matter.
From the 400+ attendee National Summit in Canberra to the smaller rotating State-Based Summits (100–130 attendees), you’ll manage every detail from curation and speaker liaison through to run sheets, logistics, budgets, and seamless on-the-day execution. You’ll be in your element juggling multiple moving parts, coordinating with stakeholders at all levels, and adapting quickly to last minute changes. Whether that’s shifting an event date or troubleshooting on the ground.
We’re looking for someone who brings energy, autonomy, and polish. You’ll be trusted to represent the RAI with professionalism, engaging confidently with government officials, members, and even international delegates. At the same time, you’ll need the kind of perfectionism that thrives on the finer details and a mindset that doesn’t shy away from pressure but embraces it.
There are well-established templates and processes in place, but you will need to learn them, take ownership, and run with them. The 2025 National Summit has already been organised, and your first major task will be to deliver it on the ground in Canberra in a few months.
This is a full-time role based in Canberra. For the first three months, you’ll be working in-office as part of your onboarding and handover. After that, there is flexibility to work up to two days a week from home. On top of that, a dedicated onsite parking spot will be available for your use.
Interstate travel is a core part of the role, and you’ll be expected to arrive on-site two days ahead of each event and stay until the full bump-out is complete.
If you're someone who thrives in high-stakes environments, loves being at the heart of big ideas, and knows how to deliver exceptional events with polish and precision — we’d love to hear from you.
