The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is looking to recruit Recruitment Administration Officers to work in our National Recruitment Unit to support high volume recruitment and onboarding of office based temporary employees for the 2026 Census.
These positions are offered on a casual basis from October 2025 to March 2026, with the potential to work up to five business days per week, depending on workload availability.
About the role
As a Recruitment Administration Officer your responsibilities will include:
- generating employment contracts, ensuring strong attention to detail
- conducting pre-employment checks in accordance with National Recruitment Unit procedures and timelines
- navigating online systems to perform candidate screening and compliance checks
- managing your assigned workload, prioritising tasks effectively to meet required deadlines
- utilising Microsoft Excel and Word to support day-to-day processing tasks
- using an Applicant Tracking System such as HireRoad's eRecruit (formerly NGA), for tasks such as candidate communication, generating employment offers and tracking onboarding
- communicating professionally and effectively with candidates and internal stakeholders via email and phone, responding to enquiries in a timely and supportive manner
- understanding and applying relevant policies, procedures, and legislation
- assisting with other administrative tasks as required.
About you - what we are looking for
To be suitable for a Recruitment Administration Officer position you should have most or all of the following skills, qualities and experience:
- recruitment or human resource experience is highly desirable
- experience in an administrative processing role in an Australian Public Service working environment is desirable
- experience using Microsoft Excel & Word; experience with HireRoad (NGA, eRecruit) or another Applicant Tracking System highly regarded
- ability to comply with relevant legislation, policies and procedures
- strong communication skills, including written communication and proficiency in responding to phone enquiries
- excellent time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities
- experience delivering exceptional customer service.
