We have a (Permanent) Category Manager – Raw Materials & Special Processes (Metals) role available.
This is a pivotal Supply Chain role in negotiating Raw Materials, shaping and executing strategic procurement outcomes across complex, high-stakes operations. This requires a Doer, rather than just a strategist.
About the role:
You will lead the establishment, placement, and management of robust contracting arrangements for raw materials and specialised metal processes.
You will engage with capable and innovative suppliers to deliver cost-effective solutions while meeting stringent schedule, quality, and safety standards.
You will operate in a technically complex and commercially sensitive environment where your ability to align procurement strategy with business objectives will be key.
You'll enable capability uplift, drive supply chain resilience, and manage capacity risk in alignment with future demand.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement category strategies for raw materials and special processes (e.g. heat treatment, surface coating, forging, casting, etc.)
- Establish commercially and technically sound agreements with key suppliers to deliver long-term value
- Ensure contracts deliver on cost, lead time, quality, and compliance requirements
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to understand specifications and business needs
- Manage supplier performance and mitigate risk in a dynamic and evolving market
- Support capability uplift and capacity planning to meet long-term operational goals
- Stay ahead of global sourcing trends and materials innovation
About You: You are a commercially astute procurement professional with strong technical acumen and experience managing complex supply chains. You bring a strategic mindset, proven contract negotiation experience, and the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and suppliers alike.
Skills & Experience required:
- Demonstrated Supply Chain experience with focus on Raw Materials & Steel
- Supply Chain Experience in either Oil & Gas, Mining or Defence
- Proven experience in category management or strategic sourcing within raw materials or special process environments (e.g. aerospace, defence, heavy manufacturing, mining)
- Strong understanding of metals, alloys, and special process suppliers (e.g. NDT, coating, machining)
- Demonstrated success in negotiating and managing complex contracts
- Experience working in regulated, high-compliance industries
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and supplier relationship management skills
- Commercial, engineering, or supply chain-related qualifications highly regarded
- Experience in ASDEFCON Australian Defence contracting - Desirable
- Member of MCIPS - Desirable
