About Us

Alpine MDF Industries is a leading wood processing facility based in Wangaratta, North East Victoria. We manufacture and distribute MDF products both nationally and internationally, providing stable employment for over 140 local workers.

Our primary focus is the production of Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF), widely used in the construction and related industries. In addition to our core manufacturing operations, we operate an on-site re-manufacturing facility, enhancing raw MDF into high-quality building products. These include pre-painted skirting boards, architraves, door and window components, and decorative wall lining panels.

Purpose

This role has primary accountability for strategic procurement and purchasing operations, directly managing the Senior Purchasing officer to ensure effective sourcing, contract management and supplier performance. It also provides oversight of logistics, freight and warehousing through reporting lines via the Warehouse and Distribution Supervisor. This structure enables efficient alignment with broader supply chain and sales requirements, while ensuring value for money outcomes across all procurement and distribution functions.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Strategic Procurement oversight:

• Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with organisational goals.

• Monitor procurement trends and implement cost-saving initiatives.

• Establish and manage company-wide procurement policies and procedures.

• Work collaboratively with Sales and Marketing to ensure procurement strategy aligns with market demand, forecast cycles and new product development objectives.

Supplier and Contract Management:

• Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships.

• Negotiate major contracts and framework agreements.

• Ensure legal and commercial compliance in procurement agreements.

• Resolve disputes and manage escalations with key vendors.

Leadership and Team Management:

• Provide leadership and mentorship to staff

• Set clear KPIs and development plans for staff.

• Build cross-functional collaboration with Finance, Engineering, and Production teams.

Logistics & Warehousing Management:

• Oversee freight provider performance to ensure they meet Alpine’s service and delivery requirements as reported by the Warehouse and Distribution Supervisor.

• Ensure freight is optimised to the most cost-effective providers without compromising service quality.

• Oversee warehouse operations to ensure compliance with procedures and efficiency standards.

• Manage inventory accuracy and adherence to FIFO stock management policies.

To be successful in the role:

• Tertiary qualifications in Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field (preferred);

• Proven experience in a procurement leadership role with responsibility for purchasing, supplier management, and contract negotiation;

• Strong understanding of logistics and warehousing operations, including DIFOT performance, inventory control, and freight optimisation;

• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams;

• Excellent negotiation and commercial acumen, including contract terms and vendor performance management;

• High-level communication and interpersonal skills to influence internal stakeholders and external suppliers;

• Proficient in procurement and inventory management systems, and confident in reporting using Excel or ERP platforms;

• Strong analytical skills to assess procurement risks, supplier performance, and identify cost-saving opportunities;

• High attention to detail, particularly in documentation, compliance, and audit trails;

• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines in a dynamic manufacturing environment;

• Proactive and solutions-focused mindset, with a commitment to continuous improvement and safety leadership;

• Collaborative approach with the ability to build trusted working relationships across Finance, Production, and Engineering teams.
