Reporting to the Manager Operations Support Services, the Team Leader Plant and Fleet is responsible for overseeing the management of Council’s vehicle, plant and small equipment fleets.
Outdoor Team Leaders are expected to meet the capability standards for Level 3 as described in the Outdoor Team Leader Classification Structure.

Leaders are accountable for embedding practices within management operating framework (MOF) to support Council’s strategic vision.
Position Description - Team Leader Plant and Fleet
Leadership in all its forms is fundamental to Department and Portfolio success. The Team Leader Plant and Fleet is expected to:
Foster a customer-focused team culture by promoting clear communication around maintenance schedules, equipment availability, and building strong internal relationships.
Lead and support team development through clear role definition, meaningful work allocation, coaching, mentoring, and performance planning aligned with organisational goals.
Manage recruitment and onboarding processes, including probation oversight and ensuring alignment with Council procedures and strategic objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
Lead fleet maintenance operations by managing reactive and planned servicing, telematics monitoring, and clear internal/external service delineation to ensure equipment availability and cost efficiency.
Strategically manage assets through annual reviews, multi-year replacement planning, and technical input into procurement aligned with the organisation's Asset Management Plan.
Support team development and compliance by mentoring staff, managing licensing and training requirements, and fostering technical growth and accountability.
Driver operational excellence by setting budgets, improving work practices, and delivering on business plans and performance objectives through continuous improvement and collaboration.
Ensure safety and compliance with Federal and State legislation, organisational policies, and risk management practices to protect staff, community, and Council assets.
The successful incumbent will hold:
Certificate III Heavy Commercial Vehicle or Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology
South Australian Class C Driver's Licence
Willingness to undertake a National Crime Check Police Clearance and pre-employment medical assessment.
