Position details

  • Full-Time/Part-Time, Maximum Term Contract until February 2026 (Parental Leave Cover)
  • Classification: Registered Nurse Level 2: $100,064 - $105,123 per annum (pro rata) + Superannuation or Health Professional Level 2: $94,927 - $106,210 per annum (pro rata) + Superannuation

About your new role

The Mental Health Clinical Support Coordinator (MHCSC) will have a background in Social Work, Nursing, in Occupational Therapy or Psychology.

As a MHCSC, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team who delivering high-quality mental health intake, assessment, triage, and referral services for individuals in the community who experience mental health issues and are seeking support. The priority of the MMHps is to connect people seamlessly to the most appropriate local service to meet their identified needs, consistent with the 'stepped care' approach.

MHCSC will provide an initial identification and assessment of individuals' needs, as well as assist people requiring general information. MHCSC will have responsibility for undertaking an assessment using the Commonwealth's Initial Assessment and Referral Decision Support Tool (IAR-DST) and supporting the non-clinical team to determine the level of clinical oversight, and key decisions required in matching people with the appropriate support service.

The Mental Health Clinical Coordinators will work as part of a collaborative team approach, supported by regular opportunities to reflect upon their practice and access comprehensive training and supervision.

About the Program

Medicare Mental Health phone service (MMHps), is funded by Country SA Primary Health Network (CSAPHN). The MMHps is an accessible and welcoming central intake and assessment service that will connect people to the most appropriate services that meet their identified needs. This may include a referral to a MNC, other available local PHN-commissioned services, jurisdictional services, online or private services.

This is primarily a phone-based service, taking direct incoming referral calls through an established 1800 mental health intake number. Utilising the Initial Assessment and Referral Decision Support Tool (IAR-DST) to support a nationally consistent evidence-informed initial assessment and referral process, the team is made up of clinical and non-clinical staff who receive enquiries and support people to reach the appropriate service. Choice and agency for consumers will be prioritised when connecting people to services.

During the initial establishment phase, phone services will be staffed and operational during core business hours (9:00am to 5pm Monday to Friday). Over time, as demand for the service grows, opening hours may be adjusted in response to demand and to complement availability of other services.

What you will bring to the role

  • The MHCSC will be either a Registered Psychologist, Occupational Therapist or Registered Nurse with a current annual practicing certificate from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency essential, or a Social Worker with Australian Association of Social Worker (AASW) membership.
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of mental health assessment and supporting consumers with presenting mental health concerns
  • Experience working with client information systems, maintaining accurate documentation and data collection
  • Demonstrates integrity and credibility, and fosters open honest communication
  • Demonstrates commitment to the organisation and its values
  • Adapts to the team and contributes to a positive team dynamic
