The Health Informatics Coordinator position is a Full-Time Fixed Term position until 30th June 2026.
The Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia Limited (AHCSA) is the peak body representing Aboriginal community-controlled health and substance misuse services in South Australia at state and national levels.
Our primary role is to be the ‘health voice’ for all Aboriginal people in South Australia. We achieve this by advocating for the community and supporting workers through our Member Services with appropriate Aboriginal health programs based on a holistic perspective of health.
Summary of the Role
The Health Informatics Coordinator is funded through the Australian Government’s Indigenous Australians Health Programme (IAHP) as part of the Primary Health Care (PHC) Activity initiative. This initiative aims to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have access to effective healthcare services across urban, regional, rural, and remote areas, including Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs). It supports the delivery of comprehensive, culturally appropriate primary healthcare services and provides system-level support to the Indigenous primary health care sector, funding clinical, population health, and organisational support services.
The Health Informatics Coordinator is responsible for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare data and IT systems used by Member Services. This role helps improve the quality of care provided by Member Services through better data management and informed decision-making.
Working closely with Member Services and other relevant AHCSA teams, the Coordinator supports data-driven initiatives aimed at improving health information management, data literacy, and system functionality. The role collaborates with Member Services to strengthen IT systems and processes, fostering a culture of continuous quality improvement and ensuring alignment with organisational goals. It also assists in optimising the Communicare health information system and leverages data analytics to improve access to timely, accurate health information.
Additionally, the Health Informatics Coordinator contributes to the continuous improvement of quality systems across AHCSA programs, offering expert guidance on health IT systems and data management. The position ensures the integrity, security, and quality of healthcare data, advising on best practices and ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
Key Responsibilities
Data Collection, Validation and Analysis: Assisting Member Services to utilise data analytics to improve access to timely health information
Advice and Consultation on IT Software and Systems: Providing advice to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of IT systems and software utilised by Member Services
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborating with stakeholders and providing support to improve access to health care information and optimise quality improvement approaches
Reporting: Providing information on activities to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare data and IT systems
Essential Experience
Experience in clinical (and other) data collection, data cleansing, data analysis and interpretation, and evaluation to enhance decision-making and improve health care outcomes.
Experience in statistical analysis of quantitative data and interpretation, and the identification of trends, insights and disparities in health program delivery and outcomes.
Experience in the use of a statistical software package, such as STATA or SPSS.
Experience in generating and displaying data graphics, through the use of software and online tools (e.g. Power BI).
Experience in disseminating and conveying data in a way that demonstrates cultural competence.
Experiencing in managing data according to ethical and privacy guidelines and principles.
Experience in providing advice on data analytics, and engaging with stakeholders to improve data literacy.
Desirable Experience
Previous experience working in an Aboriginal community controlled organisation, particularly in an Aboriginal health-related area.
Experience in developing and maintaining effective networks, alliances and relationships with Aboriginal individuals, organisations and communities.
Experience in service delivery in an Aboriginal health and well-being setting.
Degree or Diploma in Information Technology, Health Informatics, Health Information Management, Public Health (with a focus on informatics) or Statistics.
Certificate IV Aboriginal Primary Health Care.
