Overall purpose of the program:

The Stroke Programs, Research and Innovation Division (SPRI) is responsible for delivering Stroke Foundation's mission activities, this includes a range of programs and activities for both health professionals and people with lived experience of stroke, including survivors of stroke, their families and carers.

The Inclusion and Priority Communities Team sits within the SPRI Division and are responsible for supporting the Enabling goal 'Empowering our people to deliver on our mission'. The Team also takes an important leadership role within Stroke Foundation on the guiding principles of 'Lived Experience' and 'Inclusive'.

Overall purpose of position:

The Regional Community Engagement Coordinator- NSW (CEC) will support the successful delivery of a targeted regional stroke awareness and education campaign, aimed at increasing community awareness of the F.A.S.T. signs of stroke (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) and the importance of calling triple zero (000).

Working in collaboration with local stakeholders with the Shoalhaven Local Government Area, the Regional CEC will implement community engagement and health promotion activities, build and maintain partnerships with local organisations and health professionals that drive outcomes aligned with Stroke Foundation's strategic priorities, and support the distribution of education resources.

The role plays a key part in ensuring the project is responsive to local needs, accessible to priority communities, and aligned with the NSW Government's Regional Health Strategic Plan 2022-2032.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Plan and deliver community engagement activities across the Shoalhaven Local Government Area (LGA) to promote stroke awareness, with a focus on the F.A.S.T. message.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with local councils, local health services, community organisations, workplaces and community centres.
  • Drive community engagement innovation, liaising with local hospital staff, general practices, Primary Health Networks, the Local Health District and other health professionals to strengthen community and health sector connections.
  • Coordinate the targeted distribution of F.A.S.T. resources to identified priority populations.
  • Represent the Stroke Foundation at local health promotion events, expos and community forums.
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders from priority communities including organisations representing CALD communities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peak bodies, community organisations, and emergency services (e.g., NACCHO, NSW Ambulance Services).
  • Assist with the planning, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of community engagement activities, including tracking project media stories, social media engagement, advertising campaign metrics, number of F.A.S.T. resources distributed, number of community engagement activities and partnerships developed.

About You

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in community development, nursing, allied health, public health, marketing, communications, social sciences, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated professional experience of at least 2-3 years in a similar role, undertaking community engagement activities.
  • Experience managing relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including community organisations, local health services, community leaders, peak bodies and people with lived experience of stroke.
  • Experience in working with a volunteer workforce (highly desirable).
  • Exposure and understanding of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems (e.g. Salesforce) and basic data tracking, reporting and impact measurement tools.
  • Effective skills in planning and delivering community engagement programs, including public health and community events, and health promotion activities and campaigns.
  • Strong skills in community event coordination, including engagement and support.
  • High-level interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with a range of audiences (from volunteers to community, corporate and government partners).
  • Working with or within priority communities, such as First Nations, CALD, or regional, rural and remote groups (desirable).
