BCR Communities is a highly respected not-for-profit organisation serving local communities for over 30 years. BCR Communities provides support to people with disability including through our new SLES (School Leaver Employment Supports) Program. This program empowers young adults to reach their goals and successfully navigate the transition from school to employment.
We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic support worker, experienced in supporting young people or people with disability to join our SLES team. This position will be based at our Activities Hub in Sanctuary Point and may also involve delivering SLES activities throughout the Bay & Basin and broader Shoalhaven region. Commencing on a casual basis working up to 18 hours per week, this role will progress to a permanent part time arrangement in accordance with program growth.
About the Role:
As an Employment Pathways Partner at BCR, you will empower young adults with disability to achieve their employment and life goals. This role assists participants to learn new skills, gain confidence, and find a suitable, enjoyable job. The role will include the following responsibilities:
Be a partner in their journey - create a supportive environment that fosters growth, resilience, independence and self-confidence through ongoing mentoring and support
Work collaboratively with participants to support their transition from school to work, ensuring they are actively engaged and focussed on achieving their goals
Provide individualised support focused on employment preparation, including goal setting, skill development, travel & transport and work experience opportunities
Assist to facilitate individual and group skill building activities including budgeting, time management, interpersonal communication and teamwork
Provide in-community activities that promote self-awareness, community participation, social connection and personal safety
Explore and develop work opportunities through industry networks and knowledge and provide job seeking and on the job supports
Be an active and positive contributor within our dynamic team environment, we value energy, creativity and initiative in the support of each participant’s unique journey
Maintain the required levels of respect, privacy and confidentiality regarding participant information and documentation
Ensure participants progress and records are accurate and up to date and meet all NDIS administrative compliance requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
Create rapport with participants to build trust and uncover work and life goals.
Help participants work through any personal or work-related barriers.
Assess individual strengths and support participants to use these skills effectively.
Provide coaching, including in job search techniques and creating resumes.
Assist participants to develop positive relationships and enhance social and life skills.
Master networking skills to connect with potential employers for work experience or employment opportunities.
Monitor progress, create, update and maintain participant records, and provide feedback.
Report all complaints, incidents or accidents in accordance with BCR policies and procedures.
About You:
You have an employment services and/or disability support background and have the following skills and attributes:
Genuine passion for supporting young people with a disability to achieve their goals.
Outgoing and positive person who values diversity, is inclusive and compassionate.
Enthusiasm for making a positive impact and unlocking potential.
Ability to liaise with employers and analyse job requirements, workplace needs, providing support and guidance throughout.
Experienced in thinking outside the box, person-centred and value participant input.
Capacity to complete administrative tasks in a timely manner with accuracy and attention to detail.
Compliance Requirements:
Working with Children Check and NDIS worker screening
NDIS Worker Orientation module
First Aid Certificate + CPR
Unrestricted NSW Drivers Licence, with safe driving record
Current car registration & vehicle insurance
COVID-19 vaccination (at least the primary vaccination dose)
