About the Higher Education Trade Degree Apprenticeship Program
Flinders University has introduced an innovative Higher Education Trade Degree Apprenticeship in Engineering, developed in collaboration with industry leaders ASC Pty Ltd. This pioneering program aims to bridge the traditional divide between vocational trades and academic degrees by enabling students to earn a degree while gaining practical, paid experience in the defence sector. The initiative addresses critical skills shortages in engineering and is poised to serve as a model for future educational frameworks nationally.
About the Role
The Admissions Pathways Support Officer is part of a new initiative designed to support students across the full journey from education to employment. Based in the Domestic Admissions team, the role manages applications, enrolments, training plans, and student progress, while ensuring compliance with Standard 6 of the South Australian Skills Standards.
Flinders University's innovative apprenticeship program in partnership with ASC Pty Ltd, supports students in engaging in academic study and paid industry work from the outset. The role requires close collaboration with employers, academic staff, and candidates to coordinate recruitment, support curriculum alignment, and manage training plans, which are reviewed and submitted to the South Australian Skills Commission every six months.
The Admissions Pathways Support Officer will also:
- Manage the application and offer process in partnership with stakeholders
- Prepare the apprenticeship training plan in consultation with the student and employer and coordinating their endorsement of the training plan
- Coordinate the induction and orientation of apprentices at the commencement of their course, ensuring they are successfully enrolled in their topics and registered in the correct classes.
- Maintain all records in accordance with the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) and Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) requirements and record keeping standards.
The role also supports the Domestic Admissions team by assisting with applications and assessments and other administrative task from time to time as well as other project related activities.
About You
As the Admissions Pathways Support Officer, you will build strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including university staff, external partners like ASC, and apprentices. With your excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you will engage confidently with individuals at all levels, ensuring successful outcomes for both apprentices and the program.
With a background in Admissions, along with some experience in Recruitment, you will be comfortable working across multiple systems and making informed decisions independently.
To be successful in this role, you will also demonstrate:
- The ability to interpret and advise on statutes, course rules, administrative policies and procedures, and to provide risk assessments and recommendations relating to course requirements and compliance.
- Well-developed written communication skills, with the ability to provide reports, written information and presentations for a range of audiences.

- Experience in, and well-developed knowledge of processes related to, providing support for course offerings or the provision of complex course planning advice in an education environment or equivalent.
- Highly effective communication, customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop, maintain and enhance relationships with students, staff and other stakeholders.
- Proven ability to make decisions and apply judgement and problem-solving skills when dealing with sensitive, complex matters.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and advise on statutes, course rules, administrative policies and procedures, and to provide risk assessments and recommendations relating to course requirements and compliance.
