Operations Manager – Boutique Design Studio (Lighting & Fabrication)

About the Role

We’re partnering with a fast-growing, design-led studio producing handcrafted lighting pieces that merge creativity with precision manufacturing. As Operations Manager, you’ll be the operational backbone of the business—bringing order to creativity, and structure to craftsmanship.

This is a rare opportunity to join a small, high-performing team where design, architecture, and process excellence meet. You'll be responsible for implementing systems across inventory, procurement, scheduling, and studio operations to support efficient and scalable production. There are currently around 600–1,000 SKUs, and we’re looking for someone who can implement a fit-for-purpose inventory and supply chain system without relying on expensive software.

The Ideal Candidate

You’re organised, hands-on, and energised by structure—but you also “get” design. You’re likely early- to mid-career, with experience in small manufacturing or studio environments. You love building processes from the ground up and are excited about being part of a business with strong growth potential and an appreciation for aesthetic, quality, and detail.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee and streamline studio operations including inventory, scheduling, procurement, and workflow

Implement an inventory system that is simple, scalable, and cost-effective

Manage vendor relationships and ensure supplier performance meets DIFOTTS standards

Develop production schedules and ensure products are delivered on time, in full, and to spec

Champion lean principles across the workshop—eliminating waste, improving flow, and driving efficiency

Use tools such as Airtable, Notion, Google Workspace, or similar low-cost platforms to build robust systems

Lead a small team across admin and production

Build a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and accountability

Maintain a clean, structured, and high-functioning studio environment

What You Bring

5+ years in operations, supply chain, or production management roles

A practical understanding of lean manufacturing, 5S, or continuous improvement

Familiarity with both hands-on and digital inventory systems

Excellent organisational and communication skills

Experience working in a creative, design, or fabrication-led environment

A proactive mindset—someone who will roll their sleeves up and take ownership

Bonus Points

A background or genuine interest in design, architecture, or creative production

Experience with tools like Airtable, Notion, or Google Sheets to build DIY operational systems

Experience managing small teams in a fast-paced, scale-up environment
