Chief Financial Officer
Fuse Recruitment
Posted 26 days ago
An established and high-performing distribution business with a national footprint is seeking a strategically minded and operationally engaged Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its Executive Leadership Team.
This is a rare opportunity to step into a pivotal role during a considered succession period, ensuring continuity and sustained leadership. The successful candidate will play an essential role in shaping financial strategy, managing risk, and delivering accurate, actionable insights to the Board and senior leadership.
The Role
The CFO will lead a capable corporate services team and drive the financial, administrative, and risk management functions of the organisation. Responsibilities will include:
- Strategic planning
- Budgeting
- Forecasting
- Financial Modelling
- Auditing
- Governance
- Funding
- Compliance
You will manage your responsibilities across the full group of operating companies. This includes involvement in strategic partnerships, investment analysis, and ongoing performance optimisation.
This role is far more than traditional financial stewardship—it requires a leader who is deeply engaged in business operations. The successful candidate will need to be visible across sites in multiple states, listen to frontline teams, and actively identify risks and opportunities from the ground up.
Key Requirements:
- Strong commercial acumen and demonstrated experience in financial strategy and governance.
- Proven leadership ability with the gravitas to engage confidently and credibly with the Board.
- A proactive and solutions-focused approach to problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration.
- Comfortable navigating complex environments and managing constructive tension to drive outcomes.
- A true people person—visible, approachable, and invested in fostering an open, values-aligned culture.
- Experience with financial systems (Octane Systems preferred, though not essential).
- Sector background is open; exposure to capital-intensive, multi-site, or operationally diverse industries is highly regarded.
Location Flexibility
While Melbourne-based candidates are welcome to apply and base themselves in the Melbourne office, there is a strong preference to build senior leadership capability within Tasmania. As such, we are particularly interested in candidates located in, or open to relocating to, Launceston or Davenport in Tasmania.
Ideal Candidate Profile
This opportunity is suited to an experienced CFO or a highly capable financial leader looking to step into their first Group CFO role. A collaborative leadership style, combined with the intellectual rigour to lead complex financial decisions, will be critical.
What’s On Offer
- A generous remuneration package
- The chance to work closely with an experienced leadership team in a highly respected and financially sound business.
- Influence over the future direction and growth of a major player within the fuel distribution sector.
If you’re ready to bring strategic depth, operational insight, and a people-first mindset to a CFO role with real impact—this could be your next move.
