The Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA), the national peak body for music therapists, is seeking a dynamic and visionary Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organisation through an exciting phase of advocacy, reform, and sector growth.

About AMTA

AMTA is the government-recognised professional body for music therapy in Australia, supporting a diverse membership of over 1,000 registered music therapists, students, and associates. We promote access to evidence-based music therapy across healthcare, disability, aged care, education, and mental health sectors.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Board, the CEO will lead:

Strategic leadership and execution of AMTA’s 2022-26 Strategic Plan and future strategies.

High-level advocacy to influence policy and secure sustainable funding for music therapy.

Effective operational and financial management of a small national team.

Strong stakeholder relationships with government, health, education, and community sectors.

Member services and communications that empower and engage a passionate professional community.

This is a unique leadership role in a purpose-driven, membership organisation with real impact on health, wellbeing, and social inclusion.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced executive or senior leader with:
✅ Proven leadership in the allied health, not-for-profit, or professional association sectors
✅ Strong skills in strategy, advocacy, governance, and financial management
✅ Passion for social impact and improving health outcomes
✅ Excellent communication, influencing, and relationship-building abilities

Desirable: knowledge of music therapy, lived experience of allied health, or experience in membership-based organisations.
