This family-owned and operated business has been producing premium Australian Citrus for 40 years, with 3 orchards located within the Mundubbera region. 'Quebec' the orchard that the successful candidate will be operating is 115 hectares and home to 55,000 trees including lemons and 6 different varieties of mandarins. All our fruit is processed, packed and dispatched on farm in our packing shed, located at 'Joey'. The Harvest season begins during March and spans through to September.
Operations Manager Role
This operations manager role will see you report directly to the owner of Quebec Citrus who will assist with all planning and management of all aspects of running the orchard. You will lead a permanent team of 5, along with a seasonal workforce of up to 50 during harvest. You’ll be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations – from pruning and spraying to irrigation and harvest – while maintaining good communication, staff productivity , and ensuring premium fruit quality.
Responsibilities
Orchard Operations: Oversee all crop activities, including pruning, thinning, spraying, harvesting, and pest management. Along with all other day to day jobs on the orchard.
Staff Leadership: Lead an experienced team and manage seasonal workers during peak periods to ensure productivity goals are met.
Pastoral Care: Providing assistance to management staff with pastoral care of the seasonal workers.
Procurement: Calculating quantities of fertiliser and chemical and ordering accordingly
Staff Training: Train and oversee personal development of new staff members as required
Irrigation & Fertigation: Coordinate irrigation programs and collaborate with Quebec Citrus Management members to implement all inputs and ensure correct watering practices are met. Monitoring and operating frost protection and on farm storage of water. Managing flood damage mitigation during severe weather events
Planning & Strategy: Contribute to planning all aspects of the day to day running of the orchard alongside other key management members.
Fruit Quality: Maintain premium standards, optimising timing and technique to maximise yield and quality.
Infrastructure & Assets: Maintain plant, machinery, and orchard infrastructure.
Experience
Tree cropping experience - citrus tree cropping experience is desired but not essential.
Leadership - the ability to lead a team from the front with a hands on attitude, ensuring productivity and efficiency
Operations - experience with irrigation, fertigation, machinery use and maintenance, spraying, pruning, picking
The Package
Competitive Salary: $80k - $100k, based on experience.
Vehicle & Utilities: Toyota Landcruiser (personal use within reason)
