Yuleba Quarry Products Pty Ltd (YQP) own and operate a specialist mine/quarry 7Km south of the Yuleba township which is situated on the Warrego Highway approximately 60Km east of Roma and 80kms west of Miles. The quarry primarily produces engineered and specialised sands and sand based products as well as decorative aggregates used across multiple industries.
Expansion of the processing facilities to provide specialised products for the mining and construction industry is currently underway and an Operations Manager is being sought to support this expansion.
Position Purpose:
The Operations Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective management of all operational activities at the quarry, including the extraction, washing, processing, and batch production of specialty sands tailored for the construction and mining sectors. This role will ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards, while leading, developing, and supporting operational staff. During an initial period of significant business growth, the Operations Manager will maintain a strong on-site presence to stabilize and improve operational performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Management:
· Oversee and manage all day-to-day quarry operations, including mining, processing, batching, quality control, and logistics.
· Ensure operational activities align with production schedules, quality standards, and customer requirements.
· Manage batch processing of customer-specific orders and ensure timely delivery.
· Optimise operational processes to enhance productivity, efficiency, and cost control.
· Engage directly with customers and suppliers to manage orders, resolve issues, and build long-term relationships.
Safety, Compliance, and Environmental:
· Ensure all activities comply with relevant legislation.
· Promote and enforce a strong safety culture across all operational teams.
· Ensure that environmental management obligations are met, including water use, dust control, waste management, and rehabilitation.
Leadership and People Management:
· Lead, manage, and mentor operational teams and contractors to ensure productive and safe work practices.
· Oversee recruitment, induction, training, and professional development of new and existing operational staff.
· Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and team engagement.
· Address and resolve employee conflicts, performance issues, and operational concerns in a timely and effective manner.
Contractor and Supplier Management:
· Manage contracts and relationships with third-party mining, maintenance, and service providers.
· Negotiate and coordinate with suppliers to ensure the production and delivery of reliable and cost-effective supply of equipment, consumables, and services.
Financial and Reporting:
· Operate within approved budgets and contribute to cost management and profitability.
· Provide regular operational, financial, safety, and production reports to the Managing Director.
· Participate in annual budgeting, forecasting, and business planning activities.
Continuous Improvement and Business Development:
· Identify, evaluate, and implement operational improvements to increase efficiency and support future growth.
· Support the Managing Director in identifying opportunities for business development and expansion.
· Develop systems, processes, and team capability to enable the site to operate with greater autonomy over time.
Key Requirements:
Essential:
· Proven leadership and operational management experience, preferably in an industrial, processing, quarry, mining, or related sector.
· A very well organised person who is also able to organise others to complete tasks required and in accordance with deadlines.
· Strong knowledge of operational processes, quality control, and production scheduling.
· Demonstrated commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage across all levels of the organisation and with customers and suppliers.
· Hands-on leadership style with the capability to work closely with teams on-site, particularly during the initial growth phase.
· On-site presence required (accommodation may be provided to the right candidate).
· Flexibility to travel to meet with customers and suppliers as business evolves.
· Ability to respond to operational requirements and occasional after-hours issues.
Desirable:
· Experience in mining, quarrying, processing, or related industries.
· Familiarity with Queensland Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act and/or applicable Workplace Health and Safety legislation.
· Experience in managing teams operating mobile plant and processing equipment.
· Ability to adapt to growth environments and lead operational change.
