About This Opportunity

As Manager, Learning Space, you'll be instrumental in shaping and enhancing UQ's physical learning environments. This role leads a multi-year strategic plan to optimize teaching space operations, ensuring alignment with University strategy and supporting the delivery of high-quality, fit-for-purpose learning environments. Collaborating closely with Property & Facilities, ITaLI, ITS, and academic staff, you'll align learning space planning with academic needs and institutional goals. Located within the Examinations and Timetabling team, reporting to the Senior Manager, this position also supervises the Senior Admin Officer, Learning Space.

Key responsibilities will include:

Strategic Operations & Improvement

  • Oversee the Senior Learning Space Officer and all operational requirements, leading the implementation and refinement of the Centrally Controlled Teaching Spaces Operating Model. Drive continuous improvement for UQ's physical learning environments, developing data-informed models to anticipate future needs and supporting business case development for new spaces.

Stakeholder Engagement & Academic Alignment

  • Proactively engage with ITaLI and academic leaders to understand teaching requirements, ensuring learning spaces support diverse pedagogical approaches. Build strong collaborative relationships across Schools, Faculties, DVCA Portfolio units, and student representatives to guide planning and policy development.

Capital Project Leadership & Coordination

  • Act as the primary client lead for approved physical learning environment projects, partnering with Property & Facilities teams, architects, designers, and suppliers. Ensure capital projects align with approved business cases and coordinate with P&F on work schedules and maintenance plans.

Policy, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Oversee and update Learning Environments Design Guidelines, policies, and procedures to ensure strategic alignment. Plan and conduct evaluations of teaching spaces to inform decision-making, and prepare detailed proposals, reports, and communications for senior committees and stakeholders.
About You
  • Postgraduate qualifications (or in progress) in Business, Project Management, Built Environment, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand learning and teaching space management from pedagogical, technical, and space utilisation perspectives in higher education.
  • Proven experience advising senior decision-makers on significant organisational change projects, including researching and preparing complex documentation on policy, strategy, and operational impact.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret data for actionable insights and produce clear, evidence-based proposals.
  • Excellent organisational skills with proven experience applying project planning, management, and implementation tools. This includes the ability to establish, monitor, evaluate, and report on multiple diverse projects to meet deadlines.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, encompassing stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and conflict resolution. Demonstrated ability to build positive, lasting client relationships and influence others effectively without direct organisational authority.
