Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a Manager, Compliance, Policy and Records to join QUT Governance, Administrative Division.
The Manager, Compliance, Policy and Records is responsible for leading and managing a number of important functions within QUT Governance. The position leads and manages a team of compliance, policy, records and privacy specialists (currently 4 direct reports). The Manager is considered the primary subject matter expert in access to information and information privacy laws for the university and provides advice and reporting (both internal and external) in relation to university compliance. The position holder exercises autonomy and independent judgment in responding to dynamic, complex and novel situations as a key decision-maker. The Manager operates within a complex environment across the full range of University activities and functions, working closely with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, including University committees, members of the University’s executive, Executive Deans and Heads of Divisions and other senior managers. The position also consults with Government departments and regulators in privacy complaints resolution and access to information. This position reports to the Director, QUT Governance for career planning, development and performance expectations.

QUT Governance is responsible for a range of administrative functions and provides committee services to Council and university-level committees in support of decision-making. The Department provides support to other governance and compliance activities, including right to information and privacy, records management, and the development and review of university policies. The Department administers the University’s enterprise risk management and oversees business and continuity management. QUT Governance provides guidance on quality activities as they relate to the national regulator (the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency), including managing compliance with mandated higher education standards.
What you need to succeed
- Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to completion of postgraduate qualifications in a compliance/corporate governance or policy field.
- Highly developed written communication skills, including the ability to draft and prepare policy, submissions, proposals, and clear and concise reports and correspondence.
- Highly developed interpersonal and verbal communication skills including the ability to deliver presentations, consult, negotiate and influence a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at a senior level to achieve successful outcomes.
- Extensive experience in information management practices and frameworks including ability to develop and lead an enterprise-wide policy, records, privacy, and compliance activities.
- Demonstrated understanding of compliance and regulatory systems, including knowledge of the Australian and Queensland legislative environments and experience in the interpretation of legislation and government policy.
- Demonstrated understanding of the legal concepts, and an ability to apply them to complex situations, required for the management of policy, records, privacy, and compliance management at a complex organisation.
- Demonstrated experience in leading complex projects including scoping, planning, managing teams, and successfully delivering effective outcomes within scheduled timeframes.
- Proven effective leadership and management skills that drive collaboration, high-performance, high-quality outcomes, excellence, and continuous improvement in service provision.
