About the Role
The Manager is responsible for providing leadership and direction for the Specialised Alternative Learning Program. As a member of the leadership team, this role works under limited direction and is responsible for the management of the program and staffing as well as a designated organisational portfolio. The Specialised Alternative Learning Program works intensively with young people aged 10-13 years and their families with a focus on education goals. The Specialised Alternative Learning Program re-connects young people involved in the youth justice system with education, training or employment pathways.
Objectives:
Contribute to continuous improvement of the organisation as a member of the leadership team.
Take organisational leadership responsibility for an allocated management portfolio.
Oversee the delivery of high quality programs and services.
Drive community engagement and develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
Provide supportive leadership and create a safe and welcoming workplace culture.
Achieve sound financial management for the service including optimising funding opportunities.
Ensure legal and regulatory compliance and fulfilment of governance reporting obligations.
Skills and Experience
SC 1 Relevant Degree (i.e., Business, Management, Youth services, or Human Services) with substantial experience OR relevant post graduate qualifications OR relevant Diploma with substantial experience OR less formal qualifications with acquisition of considerable skills and a high level of discipline knowledge.
SC 2 Demonstrated experience working with young people at risk, with a strong emphasis on cultural understanding and safety, including a deep knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and the specific challenges faced by First Nations youth.
SC 3 Demonstrated knowledge, skills and expertise in youth services program planning, delivery and evaluation, with knowledge of relevant government and community programs and funding. This includes experience in areas such as child protection, residential care, youth justice, and outreach services.
SC 4 Significant knowledge of risk management principles as these apply to the establishment and delivery of youth services programs, and which aim to provide safe working and event environments. Trauma informed training or certification desirable.
SC 5 Proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders, and representation of the organisation at local and regional networking and community events.
SC 6 Team management skills to work autonomously, providing leadership and support to professional and non-professional staff, with applied knowledge of human resources principles, employment and safety legislation.
SC 7 Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills to solve organisational issues, negotiate issues and prepare and present governance reports. Tender writing experience desirable.
SC 8 Effective time management with the ability to manage and organise a range of activities and individuals while maintaining solutions focus, positive, calm and resilient demeanour.
SC 9 Queensland Class C Drivers Licence, Satisfactory National Police Clearance, and current positive Working with Children Blue Card.
