Sous Chef position for a French Bistro in the Heart of Highgate

Madeleine is a modern French bistro located in vibrant Highgate, Perth. Known for its refined yet relaxed approach to French dining, our restaurant brings together seasonally driven menus, warm service, and an intimate atmosphere that reflects the soul of neighbourhood dining.

As we continue to grow and evolve, we’re looking for an experienced and inspired Sous Chef to lead our small and dedicated kitchen team.

About the Role

We’re searching for a skilled and motivated Sous Chef who is ready to take ownership of the kitchen and play a key role in our restaurant’s ongoing success. You’ll be responsible for:

Leading all kitchen operations with confidence and professionalism

Designing and executing a seasonally changing French inspired menu

Managing stock, supplier relationships, and food cost controls

Upholding high standards of cleanliness, safety, and kitchen organisation

Mentoring and developing a small, close-knit team of chefs

Collaborating with owners to ensure a seamless front and back of house experience

What We Offer

Competitive salary: $80,000 – $90,000 + performance bonuses

Work-life balance: 40-hour work week, Wednesday to Sunday – no excessive late nights

Full creative input into menu development and kitchen direction

Visa sponsorship opportunity after a successful probation period of 3 months (for eligible candidates living currently in Perth with full working rights)

The position offers the opportunity to lead to the Head Chef position

About You

To thrive in this role, you’ll need to be passionate, organised, and a natural leader. You’ll ideally bring:

Proven experience as a Head Chef or Senior Sous Chef in a quality-driven restaurant

A background in French or European cuisine and seasonal cooking

Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage a small team

A calm, hands-on approach and excellent communication skills

High standards of food quality, consistency, and hygiene

A genuine passion for hospitality and a desire to be part of something special

Full Australian working rights or eligibility for sponsorship
